Apparently Tom Sawyer island is the only piece of Disneyland that Walt designed himself.

Some one brought up a good point on wdwmagic about the whole Disneyland isn't a museum thing. If Disney announced tomorrow that instead of sleeping beauty castle it will now be Elsas ice palace. Uproar would be over the top of course. So where do you draw the line of what stays forever and what doesn't?

I totally get that. That was one of Walt's personal projects and there's no doubt that there should be some respect for his legacy. I see this as a different case, though. We know the Elsa ice palace thing is not happening. We are talking about the icon, the center piece of the park, the actual company logo, not a corner in the back of the park where people rarely go. Don't get me wrong. I really appreciate those little areas in the parks where you can go to when you want to avoid the crowds and the noise. I still think that people shouldn't cling to this stuff to the point of threatening the company to never come again if they don't change their mind, especially since Walt himself wanted the park to evolve and change. As long as the park retains its spirit, legacy and core values, I don't think it's necessary to handcuff yourself to every branch Walt touched at the park.

Don't get me wrong, though. I do understand Tom Sawyer Island is a piece of Disney history and as such it should be treated with a certain degree of respect. There are just too many examples of ocassions where people have stood up against changes at DL to eventually love them (new effects on the classic rides, Halloween overlays, the addition of a second gate, and such).

Well yes but no. The closures are happening in 2016. The 60th year is 2015 so they had a very good 2015 in terms of closures and refurbs. Fantasmic is also supposed to reopen with enhancements. Anniversary celebrations never used to run 18 months.

Regardless, it's still taking place during a time when they are supposed to be making extra effort to showcase the park.

I asked this on another thread but is that lighting structure permanent? It is not appealing at all
Are you talking about the metal lighting rig next to the turrets? If so that is temporary for the new Halloween show.

Meh..."Designed Himself" is all fine - but that to me is still no reason to keep it as is. Does Disneyland remain unchanged for 100 years? 1000 years? Whatever. We've been to Tom Sawyer Island at WDW once, and never will waste our time to go back again. The same with Disneyland - I couldn't see devoting time to it.

In addition - it's not the same Tom Saywer Island as Walt's day anyways - they put a friggin' underground DRAGON on it. When Fantasmic was built was there a big uproar? Probably not because there wasn't an internet back then.

So again - they are not getting rid of it - just shrinking it a bit. Stop whining!

Weird people on wdwmagic posted today was. Fiscal 2015 ended on September 27th.

This is a longer year than last. Plus I'm not sure why they would think the year would start on a Thursday seeing as last year ended on a Saturday (every quarter ends on a Saturday).

The new year starts in October, but not calendar October, which is why FY15 technically started in September. It's still September for those running on Mickey Time

Well that budget for DHS is active staring October 4th then.

Are these the same geniuses that are so reliable on posting rumors?

Fiscal Month/Years rarely coincide with actual months/year. Fiscal Year started Sunday 9/27 as you say here. It doesn't start today, nor October 4th.

I can promise you it does start October 4th
