Mask-optional spaces: Dollywood adjusts some COVID-19 safety protocols

It's a start:

"Dollywood visitors will now see outdoor “mask-optional spaces” within the theme park and will no longer have to undergo temperature checks upon entry into the park.

Per the CDC’s guidelines on safe outdoor activities, our outdoor areas, where 6 feet of distance can be maintained between parties, are now mask-optional spaces. Guest masking is required at all ticketing areas, park entry, on rides and trams, in queues, all indoor areas and areas where guests cannot socially distance outdoors."

Honestly, I think it’s probably easier to just leave the mask on, with all the places you have to wear one, plus you never know when you’re not going to be able to socially distance outdoors, and no one wants to scramble for a mask

Agreed. The temperature checks were always safety theater. I honestly think they could go away everywhere and everything would be just as safe.

I think it gives those hesitant guests an outlet should they want to take advantage of it....right, wrong or indifferent.

Just got back from our first trip to Dollywood. First off - you're lucky if half the people are even wearing masks there, anyway, but that's beside the point. My family and I are vaccinated now, which is the only reason why we took the trip and felt comfortable going to another state right now.

I am not an anti-masker by any means. If a business asks me to wear a mask, I will put it on and wear it. But after walking around in one for an entire day, in 80-degree weather, we decided as a family that if masks are still a thing come our Christmas trip to Disney, we're going to postpone.

It's not 100% the mask, either. We spent around $1,000/person (plus all the souvenirs) to see Kentucky and Tennessee - states we've never been to. The most expensive part of our trip, outside of all the bourbon I bought, was Dollywood. It was our own mistake for not purchasing the TimeSaver, but it was a waste of a day. We waited 30+ minutes for a hot dog and most food, and were only able to get on 2 rides. All while wearing a mask in 80-degree weather. We came away from the whole ordeal feeling like: If we're gonna spend 2-3x the price to go to Disney and not get the full experience, we'd much rather spend a little less, go somewhere else for Christmas, and postpone our trip to Easter when hopefully masks are no longer a thing and a lot of the entertainment is back.

....But that's still a long way away, so fingers crossed.
