Wasn't hoppers not allowed to get in on the afternoon boarding group (since they needed to be in the park?)
Is this just basically moving up the afternoon boarding group time by an hour to just make it impossible (and thus VERY CLEAR) that park hoppers cannot join the afternoon board group (since park hopping doesn't start until 2:00 PM?) .
That's consistent with what scrappinginontario said above. I sure hope Disney has allocated a lot of buses for the park-to-park routes for the 1:00-2:00 hour once park hopping returns.I think it is also to help the other way - so people who go to DHS first and if they failed to get BG at 7am and then failed to get one at, now, 1pm they could then hop to another park earlier

It will be curious to see how many people are hopping come January. Obviously it will be local Annual Passholders (those who renewed) that maybe want a fun day .. or out-of-state vacationers that still have APs .. but I just wonder how many "normal" vacationers will get the park hopper package? The local APs may just hop with their own car, and even vacationers may choose to hop with their own car (for safety or time savings). That's consistent with what scrappinginontario said above. For me --for example -- if I could get AP, I'd probably hop (because I can) .. but I don't think I will upgrade my existing tickets to hoppers when hours are limited to 8 hours (instead of the normal 12) and no "real" night shows .. especially with kids .. especially without FPs and not knowing how long lines are doing. Just doesn't seem worth the cost. Park hopping is good .. when the parks are open until 8:00, 9:00, 10:00 PM .. but closing just after sunset? Probably not so much.
Yeah it’s going to be more people like us from Tampa who come for a night or 2. We always hop when we’re there. Go to one park in the morning for a couple hours. Go back to room and relax. Then hit second park around 3 (usually EPCOT). So with our AP we’ll take advantage of it for sure. We’re planning on being there 1/4-1/6 but we’ll see if we keep that as it gets closer.not many local APholders park hop, most arrive at the desired park in the afternoon and stay for only a couple of hours or go early to the desired park and then leave

sort of what I was wondering in my above post - with all that many people really hop?
I could see some want to hop from one park over to EPCOT for dining options (and then you don't have to use up one of your park reservations for an EPCOT day) but are that many people going to start at MK and hope to AK or something like that?

If we were going, we would. lots depends on weather. we have not seen many of the 'night time' little specials at AK, so its always an option we keep open. often park hop for food and then finish out that night at the new park. we hop almost everyday at least once during out trips.
We would! We'd do MK until early afternoon, then hop to AK to finish hopefully at dusk. I love the last 2 or 3 hours at AK, starts to feel as if you are the only ones there.
We also have 9 park days, so we never do one park open to close.![]()
maybe I am under weighing it ... I know we hardly every park hop (usually don't even bother paying for them to save $) so with the shortened hours just don't see why bother, but maybe I am in the minority
Just a lot of factors I guess .. how long of a trip .. where you are staying, etc. Probably good for long trips (because they "value" of that $60 (or AP) is a lot greater the longer your trip).maybe I am under weighing it ... Yeah different ways of touring will also either lead itself to hopping or exclude hopping. Someone like you, coming from out of town, not here as often, looking to maximize time in the parks (most likely rope drop to close), hopping wouldn’t make sense for you with the reduced hours. Like you said, if hopping was there now, with the expanded hours, it would work for you. But for us, who go more frequently and just enjoy leisurely strolls through the parks with sometimes only going on 1-2 rides while we’re there, the hopping is essential. For that January trip I can see us hitting MK in the morning and leaving by 11, going back to resort and then getting to Epcot or even AK around 3 and enjoying those last few hours. Like @Farro was saying, we too have some great memories of a later in the afternoon hop into AK and wandering around as the lights came on and people were heading towards the exit. That park really empties out quick as if gets closer to closure.Just a lot of factors I guess .. how long of a trip .. where you are staying, etc. Probably good for long trips (because they "value" of that $60 (or AP) is a lot greater the longer your trip).
I mean .. I could see hopping over to Epcot or DHS in the evening for a meal if I've done everything I've wanted. Hopping between those two is pretty quick.
I would sometimes hop after the "afternoon break." .. But with only 8 hours (and no extra magic hours) .. I don't see myself even going back to the hotel for an afternoon break unless I am in a monorail or Epcot resort.
We'll see .. at this point -- I am leaning towards no hopping in January unless something changes (more hours, annual passes being sold, etc.)
I've used it liberally in the past (before kids) .. it is fun.Yeah different ways of touring will also either lead itself to hopping or exclude hopping.
