News Round Up 2020

A question for you resident nut. Has any show, doc, movie been better than "From the earth to the moon" on HBO many years ago? Me, I don't think any compare.

That is probably the best one. The Apollo documentary last year was excellent but too short. From the Earth to the Moon is probably the most detailed but also had the emotional part that makes space so interesting. First Man was really good too and had so much info about Neil Armstrong that neither of us had ever known.

The Challenger doc on Netflix is very good too, but so emotionally draining to watch. So much footage of Christa Mcauliffe that I'd never seen. Excited to see the new show this weekend! DH and I are nuts about anything NASA-related. The PBS stuff they had on 50th anniversary of moon landing was phenomenal too.

Yes but I look at as more entertainment being cut from Disney.

yeah, definitely woudl think by making this "official" they can save money on retained performers, etc.

Also I am sure these shows would not reopen for a long time even after the park opens in general and by then they likely would want to rework things anyway. So end this, let the connected people go, and then eventually (2-3 years from now) bring back something new

I'll always have an emotional attachment to the film version of The Right Stuff. Maybe it was my age when I first saw it, but for years after, whenever I heard John Glenn's name, I saw Ed Harris in my head. (Seeing the real John Glenn at an event in 2004 finally cured me of that!) I loved From the Earth to the Moon and also really enjoyed The Astronaut Wives Club, which was on ABC a few seasons ago. The book was good too. It was almost like watching The Right Stuff from the wives' view. I'm hoping to get a chance to start this new version of The Right Stuff this weekend. Was quite disappointed last weekend when I went to D+ to watch it and realized I was a week ahead! I basically love anything from that era.

Man, I'm right there with you. I watched the Challenger disaster live at school as a child and saw Columbia re-entering while outside early in the morning in Texas. Everytime those are mentioned at NASA related exhibits, I tear up.

Yeah, Dune moved to Batman’s original release date in October 2021.

Also, the Regal theater closing is pretty massive. I actually wonder if they’re ever going to reopen.

yes regal is going to reopen someday. Not all the regals but probably most of them.

Goes without saying that once again, it’s heartbreaking to see the result of these layoffs hitting some important areas of the parks. That said, Aladdin should have never been removed. I’ve seen the Broadway play for Aladdin, and IMO, it was terrible. The show at the Hyperion was so much fun and very well acted and cast.

I wonder what will be done with that building. It really is kind of Marvel Land adjacent. I wonder if they’ll scrap the show element in the future when they make a decision on it and create another attraction for Marvel. That’s such a big building and prime real estate in the park to keep vacant for very long.
