News Round Up 2020

Extending hours is a GOOD thing. Another step back to normal.

I get the feeling (anecdotally) that more people (not all, obviously) are feeling ready to go back now .. despite the reduction in hours and experiences. Cases are plummeting, no outbreaks associated with any of the parks after 2-3 months.

I know two families that are going in October and November despite the reductions. The first family have been many times and had a trip planned pre-Covid, so they don't really care about reduced experiences as they've done it all and will do it again. The second family (my sister-in-law) have only gone once before, so this is a big family trip for them ..though they are doing it a bit differently (by camping in their new camper at Fort Wilderness). Both are excited to go.

Heck the "low crowds" and "low waits" are probably more of a selling point (to those of us that monitor these things) than any discounts or commercials :). I wonder if a lot of "wait and see" families may decide to keep their pre-covid planned trips for Oct - Dec and/or a lot of people may plan a last minute trip?

Just wanted to add that on Saturday September 12th it was raining all day long. The shortest wait in DHS was for Muppets and it was 35 minutes. MMRR reached 120 at one point. MFSR line started in Toy Story Land. TOT and RNRC Were both over 60 minutes and the lines started side by side half way back to "main street"

So I had not planned on anything disney this year but of course I can't stop myself and we really need a break here. But this always concerns me of course. We know how to make the best of it but I am now gonna plan 2 DHS days just in case. That's always been the problem child park for me, I love it but its just too small. I guess I better research how the star wars stuff works now, huh?

yeah, the only "knock" I might have is it felt like about 4 individual set pieces (which were all amazing) and not a ton in-bewteen to really flesh out the story and give the full experience

(basically nothing with Gaston, the "battle scene" could have been much more substantial, etc.)

but that is nit-picking, what is there is incredible

You do bring up a good point both in your spoiler and non-spoiler.

Y a.. I am planning a "1 day at Disney" trip in November and was planning on DHS (mainly because I went to SWGE a year ago and thus missed the opening of the Railway and Rise of the resistance)

I am worried too it will feel like a "wasted day" --
1) I won't be able to get in a boarding group for Rise (and thus the whole point of the day there!)
2) The lines for everything else will be unbearably long despite the lack of people in the parks. (But with nothing else to do in the park, I'll still wait in them).
3) Not being able to get dining reservations (which seems even harder now despite the low crowds and only making them at 60 days). As an adult-only trip, I was hoping to get into Oga's -- nope .. no availability, even at 60 days out for just 2 people).

Luckily I am planning on just going with the wife, so we can roll with those punches better than kids. (which is why we are choosing to wait for a "normal" family vacation still)

DHS just seems like cursed with its own success right now .. it has a LOT of popular rides, just not many of them .. and the removal of the shows just means there isn't much to do there. So it has enough "cool" things to attract all the crowds, but not enough things to do to spread out the crowds.

And social distancing is just going to affect queue times .. we'll see how and when Disney changes those as they inevitably let more people in the parks.

I'm not even going to watch because I'll be annoyed that WDW won't get this and I don't see myself going overseas anytime soon.

I'm not watching because my plan to go next Sept is still on. If I need to unravel it all nezt summer or push it to 2022/3 that's fine but for now I'm still going to start booking in a couple weeks when flights open. Been planning it since May 2018 I don't want to push it 😊

Thank you for those that put stuff in a spoiler tag, I appreciate it! I've been skipping over ride stuff here and on FB.

If I can't do the 2nd week of the trip in HK and Shanghai then I'm going to universal to see the new Nintendo stuff. Prob the only thing that will help make up for not getting to finish all 6 parks but I'm still hopeful.
