News Round Up 2020

Let's be real - the mask restrictions and the park restrictions will be in place for at least 3 months after there's a widely available vaccine. Disney cannot afford to have a outbreak occur centered around the parks. Precautions will last beyond necessity and right now there is no visible end to necessity.

Edit: I could see them even implementing a "Proof of vaccination" requirement once we get to that point.
I do agree it will take months before Disney (and other places) will feel comfortable lifting restrictions. I just don't think that "waiting for the vaccine" is what we should be doing and we should take steps to normalization before that.

I don't think private businesses are going to require proof of vaccination. WAY too many legal issues involved in that (medical privacy for one). Public schools? Sure .. WDW? No. I could opine more .. but we start getting into politics and not WDW news.

That being said .. with UO making decisions to not open hotels for rest of the year and all the fall activities already cancelled .. I definitely don't see things getting CLOSE to normal in Orlando until at least Spring 2021 now. I wouldn't be surprised to hear Disney isn't re-opening most of its hotels until then and cancelling the Christmas parties (I mean .. even if they had them, would they have enough interest to make it worth it?)

What is he doing for the Splash retheme if hes not coming out of retirement for that? I know hes not the head imagineer, but hes heading the project with Charita Carter. But if he can help with Princess and the Frog, then theres no excuse to not head a new Figment attraction if Disney was interested
Likely a consulting role. I am sure for this he would like to be hands on for Figment.

Yeah, but lets be real, it starts as a consulting role, then he realizes how much he misses it and him and Carter are equally involved. If hes hinting at coming out of retirement (obviously Disney approving an Imagination ‘redo’ is the biggest hurdle) then hes probably going to get his hands dirty when work gets underway on Splash. Just my opinion. But I really hope that Disney sees this and at least thinks about it. Figment needs love, and Journey needs attention, and lots of it.

Disney isn't putting forth the money right now into the Splash redo either though. Yes its approved but they aren't out there building it yet and likely won't be for at least a year. If rumors are true the WDW one could be on an even longer hold. Disney isn't going to throw money at something that isn't necessary for the moment. Finishing future world for example is.

Absolutely. Ive said from the start that this announcement reeked of D23 2021 reveal. Public pressure is why they did it when they did, and hopefully anyone that has an issue with the current Splash theming understands that a change like this cannot happen overnight, if not, then those people aren’t keen on theme park operations to begin with. 2022 is probably the earliest they start work, I’d imagine. And with everything going on, who knows when the budget is there. I’m not 100% sold on the WDW version being changed. And I think they could easily use the current circumstances to say they’ll only be able to do 1, and Disneyland always seemed like the obvious choice for this retheme.

As far as Journey, I’m fine with waiting as long as I need to, as long as it stays a Figment attraction. Baxter heading the project would be the icing on the cake.
