News Round Up 2020

I asked this in another thread but I didn’t get an answer. Does anyone here know possibly?

We had a trip planned for June 2020 but moved it back in May to June 2021. I went online for the reservation of the parks, got through and discovered the tickets were not there, so I can’t reserve today. I thought they transferred my whole package to next year but there are no tickets. Does that mean I have to order tickets on June 28, at 7am? Can I just add them to my package without paying for the whole thing? I’m so bummed that the tickets didn’t transfer when I modified. I can get to the reservation page but because I don’t have tickets with my package I can’t reserve a day. Is there another time I can add tickets to the package? Sorry I’m usually with it but apparently not today lol
I would call Disney and inquire. If you were still charged for the tickets, you should still have them. If they refunded you the amount of the tickets, you’ll have to buy new ones when they’re released. But definitely call. It’s the only way to find out.

Just to note, I believe you can turn a room only reservation into a package with tickets starting on the 24th.
No idea why your tickets didn’t transfer in the first place or if they are just not showing up.

Not only that but they are offering deals on a number of the sold out resorts if you call, which they haven't done in at least a decade.

I assume that would be for like what is left on a contract that was forfeited or they got from attempted resale right of first refusal - not like new 30 year contracts right?

Correct. Disney collects contracts in 3 ways: foreclosure, forfeiture in a will settlement, or ROFR on a resale or bankruptcy auction. I believe most of Disney's come from ROFR in a resale. Before the closure, Disney had been ROFRing contracts for OKW and AKV like crazy. It seemed like a good idea at the time I'm sure. Now they have a stash of points and I'm sure they'd rather have the cash - they haven't taken a contract via ROFR since late March.

Are these for buying points one time for this summer? Or is it a deal on buying into a resort (even sold out ones, which I don't understand how it would be possible") and the projected savings over the course of the contract? I assume the latter, as the savings are way too big for 1 year. But also kind of tiny for 30 years.

Yes, for buying the points initially. The annual fees will remain what they are. Disney slowly reacquires points for previously Sold out resorts over time as I noted in a post above and the resells them. If you are seriously considering a first time DVC purchase I would strongly suggest you head over to the DVC boards and research the benefits of buying resale vs direct - most people there strongly recommend buying resale.

Hey there. We did something similar as we moved our May 2020 trip to May 2021. Since you had a package with tickets, they were only able to book you (like they did for me), a basic package without tickets until Wednesday of this week. I was able to reserve park passes today but only because I had other tickets attached. We can call on Wednesday and turn our basic package into one with tickets. Even though I made park reservations today, I also want a package with tickets to add more days since PH is not allowed yet. Hope this helps.

I am a few years away from that, but I was thinking for a family member that already has DVC. If I paid for the points added, then I could just "rent" those points from them, right? The closed resorts was also intriguing but I assume current members are locked in at their current resort, which is the Poly and they still have yet to be able to get. They always end up at OKW, which we really enjoy anyway. But I would prefer BLT.

Interesting. If you're looking to buy direct, it might be time to pull the trigger. Just looking at Copper Creak which I think is up at $210 per point now. Random sampling of some resale contracts has it around $150ish per point.

I made a chart! Discounts on the blue line are estimated in between the price points given. I was looking at 300 pt contracts that would fit a party of 6 for a week. You're only 9kish off the resale with this.

Still, I'm not ready to pull the trigger on a 60k purchase. Heh.
