News Round Up 2020

Yeah, I can't imagine he is taking the time to travel there to NOT get the parks closer to opening
They can talk talk by conference call or Teams/Zoom/Skype/GoToMeeting/Whatever; very few people would refuse the VPs call, whoever the VP. The VP is travelling with the Governor to a place where neither of them works or lives. I did events like these for years when I worked in politics: this is for an announcement of some kind.

Now that announcement could be something like the administration has delivered X number of masks to Florida Hospitals or We Love Orlando's Nurses. It's not necessarily parks related (I'd wager that it isn't), and even if it is, my intuition is that Universal would more more likely to do a photo op announcement than Disney.

But I've been wrong before.

Any reason (news?) Disney stock is skyrocketing this morning? (currently up like 9% in the first 30 minutes of trading). I never had the confidence to buy more Disney when it was low (under $100) considering there was no idea when parks would open or movies would restart (but this is why i am NOT a stock broker).

Is just the news about Disney Springs opening enough to boost confidence back?

Glad to see it bounce back, just shocking to me that a company whose future earnings is still pretty unknown because of all this has such a big jump.

Nothing major yesterday or today.

the whole market is up due to news of more states reopening, the Fed pledging more support fro the recover (Fed Chairman also said he expects the economy to steadily improve in the 2nd half of the year), also news that the first coronavirus vaccine tested on humans has shown promise

Crude was up too - so thinking just more optimistic view about everything and potential to "return to normalcy in sight" and Disney announcing some reooening plans is contributing to that

Yeah it seems like it’s just general confidence in the reopening of Springs according to the articles I can find. So just a semi-normal jump in the stock given the pretty steep decline it had taken over the past few months.

Likely due to the positive news about a vaccine, not Disney Springs related

True .. but Disney is up way more than the rest of the market. Which is why I asked.

It is good to see general "confidence" of things getting back to normal. Every day something goes back to normal (NASCAR running a race, Disney Springs opening, certain stores re-opening), the closer we are to things like the theme parks opening up (even at reduced capacity with restrictions).

NEWS

"Disney is taking the reopening of Disney Springs extremely seriously, and will be creating a new team that will engage with guests who either have questions about the safety policy, or are simply not following it."

If you have a problem... if no one else can help... and if you can find them... maybe you can hire... The Social Distancing Monitoring Team.

I think "tourism" is doing well on this news. For example, Carnival Cruise Line is up higher than Disney this morning
Interesting .. seems too soon (how will people react to these safety measures/restrictions, what if there is a second wave or hotspot at a tourist destination, etc.) But what do I know .. again .. I am no stock broker, but darn glad to see positive signs. Consumer confidence runs the economy

That’s how stocks generally work in these situations. They go up (or down) well before the actual outcome is known. So we’ll see the bump now for the possibility of tourism in a few weeks and probably see another bump in a few weeks when more news is released.

or a downward tick if there are delays or the reality doesn't match the expectations.

There was some good vaccine news this morning. One company's early results are promising (I forget which one)

Honestly, the absolute best thing that could come out of this pandemic mess is either a new type of cast member, or a new attitude for cast members, allowing them to put some muscle towards guests behaving badly in general (and not just those not following social distancing guidelines).

Many poorly behaved guests have been given far too much latitude over the past many years, which devalues the experience for the rest of us.

I agree. Hopefully this new Social Distancing Team turns into the Rules Enforcement Team when the pandemic ends.
