News Round Up 2020

They were speculating on the DisUnplugged podcast last week that Disney may even offer discounts to other SE states for the fall if they feel the need to boost their resort numbers. Has Disney ever done that? Offer discounts to non-Florida states? I wonder just how many cancellations they have gotten for the rest of 2020 .. and what those capacity levels would have to be at for them to offer something like that now.

At that point I wonder if they would just have a general discount going vs specifying what states people are from.

Seems like attendance at all parks other than DHS is well below capacity. I wonder if they could create a package that is heavily discounted but then would give you access only to the other three parks

Wouldn't the attendance cap at DHS cover that though? They can add incentives for people to come and DHS, if at capacity, would just show booked for the day?

That's true - guess I was thinking more of ways to boost attendance at the other parks vs worrying about the cap at DHS. Some of those photos and videos make the other parks seem like ghost towns at time and what is the revenue vs cost for those parks if not even near the capacity figures?

I never would have cared about parking lot issues at Disney. Now that I'll probably will be driving next time I go in the next 1-2 years...

WE have driven countless times from Illinois. Time in the van was precious when the 3 kiddo's were young. Always had a ball. But, when we got to Disney, the van got unloaded, parked at our hotel (without a fee pirate: ) and stayed in that spot until it was time to head home. I can and have driven around Disney, but when facing a 15 hour trip both there and back, give me a bus while there.

Well at this point, it's probably cheaper for me with our party of 6. I've been trying to convince my wife of this for years. But now there are other motivations other than money.

We drive from NY quite often with 3 young kids ... I will say the drive down is generally quite a bit better than the ride back

I understand both points. One time, since we drove right by it, we decided to stop at Lookout Mtn. Didn't even look like rain, but before we could get back to the van, we were soaked. Felt good on a hot day and we were laughing so hard the whole van was shaking once we got inside. Boys were about 7 and daughter 9. Those are things they will remember their whole lives. Later that evening we drove through Atlanta in a weird electrical storm. Lightning crashing all around and we were cruising right on through. Didn't even rain though.

Obviously we don't know what the plan is for increasing park/resort capacity (especially since Florida is a hot spot at the moment), but I really hope they extend these resort offers well into the fall. I also hope they keep capacity where it is for the rest of 2020, but one battle at a time.

They can send all the general public discounts they want - but us from the North essentially can't go no matter how cheap things are. I hope Disney (and Universal) are starting to pressure the state government to get things under control, because at this rate they are going we won't be able to go to Florida for the next year.

They may be reducing capacity with how Florida is going.

yeah. You simply can't release blockbusters if there are no movie theaters open. I know a few around here, including the drive-in, but not enough to actually make releasing a film you spent $100MM+ on, let alone 2 or 3x that, worthwhile.

That being said, I keep hoping Jungle Cruise gets released to D+. Feel like that film wrapped forever ago and I saw a preview for it before Call of the Wild and it looked like exactly the type of comedic entertainment I want right now!

Jungle Cruise was pushed to Summer 2021 so that still has time on its side. That’s one they’ll try hard to get into theaters.
