News Round Up 2016

As a follow-up to my previous post, I checked WDWinfo.com for the refurb schedule, and it shows the refurb "ending" Nov. 9. But, on the MDE app, its listed as being closed for refurb well into January - same for Dinosaur and BTMRR. So, I'm thinking this is an error in the app?
Well I can't see that being true.

that's got to be an error - no way I can see them having all three of those major attractions closed during the busy holiday season

I'm certainly glad to hear that Epcot might be getting lots of needed love, but I'm also a little sad. I really loved the idea of celebrating the global community and the positive outlook on the future. While a lot of that has been eroded significantly over the years, I guess that's finally going to be pushed out entirely in favor of movie-themed rides.

It was such an inspirational theme park at one time. I'm sure it'll still be very entertaining, but, for me, the greater message was part of the magic.

I very much feel the same way - things definitely need to evolve (heck, the park that was built was very different than Walt's original plan for EPCOT) but hopefully they can keep some of that spirit and use the IP to enhance that and invite the guest to discover and learn along the way

I am with you and I never got to see Epcot Center. I wish I could go back in time and see Epcot in its prime.

Rumor

Stitch theater A is already being dismantled. Theater B is still there for seasonal needs.

Rivers of light to soft open Monday.

Tomorrowland to be renamed Discoveryland.

Glad they are getting started on Stitch. Hopefully ROL delivers.

No, No, No on the rename. Who is starting the petition to prevent this travesty? Looking at you teetz.

This isn't really news, but thought it might be worth mentioning.

Last week I went to the Dining with an Imagineer at the Brown Derby, which was excellent and well worth the money, in fact for Disney standards it was quite a bargain.

I won't give their actual name as I wouldn't want things to get back to them. But we had an imagineer who was in charge of a large part of Shanghai, and is now working on Toy Story Land at Hollywood Studios.

He spent a lot of time talking about Shanghai and one thing he said which I hadn't heard of before is that in order for an agreement with the Shanghai government to be made they had to put in some kind of exclusivity deal with the rides, so most of the rides were exclusive, and now if any of them were to be used in parks outside of Shanghai they would need to negotiate it with the Chinese Government, in other words don't expect Shanghai Pirates or Tron to come to any other park anytime soon, as it's a decision which will ultimately fall with the Chinese Government.

He also mentioned Toy Story Land would open in 2018 and Star Wars Land in 2019, but since he's not in charge of Star Wars Land he may not have the inside info on that, and it might just be the internal placeholder date being thrown around.

Someone also asked him if Indiana Jones would be coming into the park, and he said nothing, he just looked uncomfortable with what could be seen as a poor poker face and said something along the lines of "it could one day". This was far from confirmation or news, but at the time I found it interesting.

He was very careful not to give too much away, but it was still fascinating listening to him chat about his experiences and I would recommend it to any Disney Parks fan.

Dining with an Imagineer is something I would consider doing every single trip just to have the chance to pick one of their brains. I too agree that it was totally worth the money and, not for nothing, it gives one a reason to flex their "insider" knowledge. When I went I started talking about the Marvel contract (how the characters can be used in California but not Orlando, etc) and he seemed surprised that I would know that. It intrigued him enough to ask what else I had heard. At the time I talked about Tower of Terror turning into Guardians (in California) and he said, "geez, sounds like you know more than me. I haven't even heard about that."

Glad you had the opportunity to experience it!

News/Rumor

WDWNT claims CSR is expanding their convention space.

http://wdwnt.com/blog/2016/10/rumor...isney-plans-close-contemporary-resort-center/

The permits filed are for the moving/expansion of retention ponds. I have heard expansion is coming but I haven't heard it's for convention space. We might be looking at DVC here. Also this is the first I've heard of shutting down the Contemporary convention space.

Did the paper FP's say it excluded ROL before?
That's what I'm saying, they print a huge batch the first of each month and distribute them to all attractions and shows around each park, from there the coordinator will give some to the cm working said attractions and shows for them to use at their discretion.
Edit to add: you can see that the twitter post is from yesterday

Oh I know that part. What I was asking was prior to October was ROL excluded on the paper FPs from the previous batch?

If they were on there previously then it may not mean a huge thing
If they were not on there previously then it may mean ROL is close to opening and thus Disney want's to block users from using the paper FPs for them

I'm hoping that makes sense.

I have no idea of this was the first month

News/Rumor

Also this is the first I've heard of shutting down the Contemporary convention space.

There are some rumors that the bulk of the convention business will be moved to the Yacht/Beach Club and Coronado Springs.
The Contemporary Convention Center would be demolished and another DVC would be constructed in its location.

Guess we'll see if this pans out!
