News Round Up 2016

Rumor

Stitch theater A is already being dismantled. Theater B is still there for seasonal needs.

Rivers of light to soft open Monday.

Tomorrowland to be renamed Discoveryland.

Would a re-naming of Tomorrowland imply a re-theming as well? Is it Paris that has the Jules Verne/Steampunk-ish Tomorrowland? Maybe Tokyo? What do they call that version? I would -LOVE- to see something like that done in Orlando - it would be absolutely incredible. Tomorrowland is so sad, a really nice refurb - whatever style it is - would really revitalize a huge part of the park.

Paris' is named Discoveryland and has the steampunk feel. Tokyo is tomorrowland. Nothing has been said about a retheme but I'd doubt it.

Interesting the apparent change to DiscoveryLand. Might make more sense going forward as nothing seems to fit in with Tomorrowland

I haven't seen what your talking about in Paris, but I do remember as a child, I loved the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride! I really thought we had gone under the sea! As a teenager, not so much... I remember seeing the water line, and trash floating at the surface. But a steampunk version sounds interesting.

News/Rumor

This is all but confirmed

Dug and Rafiki will no longer meet in AK after this coming weekend. Their last day is either the 5th or 6th.

This isn't really news, but thought it might be worth mentioning.

Last week I went to the Dining with an Imagineer at the Brown Derby, which was excellent and well worth the money, in fact for Disney standards it was quite a bargain.

I won't give their actual name as I wouldn't want things to get back to them. But we had an imagineer who was in charge of a large part of Shanghai, and is now working on Toy Story Land at Hollywood Studios.

He spent a lot of time talking about Shanghai and one thing he said which I hadn't heard of before is that in order for an agreement with the Shanghai government to be made they had to put in some kind of exclusivity deal with the rides, so most of the rides were exclusive, and now if any of them were to be used in parks outside of Shanghai they would need to negotiate it with the Chinese Government, in other words don't expect Shanghai Pirates or Tron to come to any other park anytime soon, as it's a decision which will ultimately fall with the Chinese Government.

He also mentioned Toy Story Land would open in 2018 and Star Wars Land in 2019, but since he's not in charge of Star Wars Land he may not have the inside info on that, and it might just be the internal placeholder date being thrown around.

Someone also asked him if Indiana Jones would be coming into the park, and he said nothing, he just looked uncomfortable with what could be seen as a poor poker face and said something along the lines of "it could one day". This was far from confirmation or news, but at the time I found it interesting.

He was very careful not to give too much away, but it was still fascinating listening to him chat about his experiences and I would recommend it to any Disney Parks fan.

Okay, so most of the characters cut lately I couldn't care less about as they could be seen else where or just didn't really interest me. But this I am very sad about as I'm pretty sure AK was the only park in the world were Dug met reguarly, and as for Rafiki when I think Animal Kingdom I think Rafiki. He is just to me the embodiment of Disney animals (that you can meet). They really should be adding more characters, not cutting them.

Yes there was a lot of exclusivity deals made but most of those deals do have an expiration date. For example the new soarin film debuted at Shanghai a day before it did in the US because of an exclusivity agreement.

Yes toy story is supposed to open in 2018 and Star Wars in 2019.
