News Round Up 2016

Today spent at epcot. New soarin' is great, loved it. Frozen ever after a nice ride but 90 minute standby not with it. DVC lounge is nice. Nothing else new. Food and wine festival is great. Happy guy after Jellyrolls!

Liked the new soarin film...it would be nice if they start a "rotation" with multiple shows a la Star tours in the future.

We waited 13 minutes for the frozen ride in July when it opened after breakdown...

I woulda gone 16 minutes but not one second longer.

...if you want to know what bob chapek "cheap IP" into the parks looks like manifested...with too much money and a ridiculous construction schedule...it's "the artist formerly known as Norway"

That's nice Disney thinks Pandora will set the bar for immersion, and I hope it's true.
Just have my doubts. Nothing has come close to diagon alley at universal in my book.

I don't doubt their work or emotional investment in this one...I'm sure it's the most expensive theme park addition ever lb for lb (not at all a stretch)...

...I doubt the premise that "imagineering can make any IP great - regardless of its appeal" on this.

They did that with splash in 1988 and tower in 1993...but that was a different era. And since Disney now claims "IP is EVERYTHING" - you can't have it both ways.

Now:..it will take time to shake it out. A 2 hour wait on the first holiday after opening proves nothing...call me in about 3 years and see if there's tumbleweed rolling through.

Watching closely.

man, I really wish WDW decorated Magic Kingdom beyond Main St for Halloween like they do at DLR - the park looks amazing

Though, I do want to confirm: Today is just October 17th right? Christmas stuff already?

The art of the cross sell...

And remember that Disneyland has much less ground to cover for the logistics of decorations...and really "slow days" midweek that aids their equivalent of holiday services...

i think the average person going to a theme park just want to rides rides and be immersed
if its fun itll be popular, i know thats oversimplifying it a little bit but really people are pretty simple

Just based on what we can see outside the walls I think this land will be incredibly immersive but thats just me.

My advice: just wait and see and then we can form an opinion.

I don't think "benefit of the doubt" applies here...so "clean slate" is better, no?

totally agree
hopefuly im going into it with an open mind to not be bluntly saying its the greatest thing since slice bread

I think you a have a point...but may be oversimplifying as well...

As I said...my stance is based on hoW THEY are playing it.

You can't slap guardians of the galaxy in the specifically designed tower of terror and say "ip is all that matters" - but then build from scratch and put a questionable IP in DAK and skirt the "ip issue"

Both sides out da mouth here.

Jim Hill musings

DisneyQuest won't close until 2017 at the earliest.

Ratatouille will come to Epcot for WDW 50

Also for the 50th each park and Disney Springs will get a Club 33 style restaurant. This would be part of a golden oak ownership as well, which is currently in development on a phase 3.

So is this the opposite of "Limited Time Magic"? Who remembers that embarrassment? If not... who could blame you? It was completely forgettable.

That's the problem when the suits only approve 9 words in the dictionary as "acceptable" for use in promotions...

Things get "muddled"

I don't think we can tell just yet by looking at the outside.

Let's take the new fantasyland for example. It's very pretty, has some beautiful new castles and rides.

Yet, for me, immersion is walking through diagon alley and seeing the walls plastered with advertisements for wizarding products. It's all the intricate window displays. The tiny details in the stores, like the mirror that talks to you in the robe shop or the goblin who interacts with you in the money exchange shop. Or all the interactive spells you can perform while walking around.

It's the team members dressed in wizard outfits wandering the area, the several small shows and performances that happen.

It's all the food and beverage themed to the wizarding world. You don't get a water, you get a gillywater or flavored water that's flavored by potions.

That's what immersion is to me. Pandora may or may not have it, but there's no way I can tell by looking at the rock work or concept art.

I understand but from what's been said I have high expectations for this land. CMs are said to speak Navi, and you can already see some of those smaller details in the lamp posts and the bridge theming that was in the photo update I posted.

Diagon Alley has the advantage of being inherently immersive because of it's nature as an alley with high walls. It is very well done, but I agree @rteetz - I think Pandora and Star Wars will be completely next level. Immersive open-world type experiences, like Cars Land but far beyond that.
