News Round Up 2016

Spirited rumor update!

DHS's ToT/Guardians overlay isn't officially off the table but at least is until some new things are added to the park where they could then take an attraction offline. The Epcot guardians plans aren't a done deal either.

Star Wars fireworks! Coming to Disneyland and Disneyland Paris in 2017!

Bob Iger and Bob Chapek feel Disneyland has been living in the past too much. They want to focus on the future and the future is Star Wars. So coming early 2017 is a brand new pyro and projection show based on Star Wars to both of those parks. These will be the new nightly fireworks show. However the Star Wars fireworks show in Paris won't be at Disneyland Paris park it will be at Walt Disney Studios park and that show will be similar to what is shown at DHS. They have been testing projections on ToT in Paris for this.

Bob Chapek also got a nice healthy budget approved for DLR for post Star Wars land...

Potter in California hasn't hurt Disneyland numbers.

I can see this happening in Paris (Even though there's nothing Star Wars related in there besides Star Tours, which is at the other park). As for Disneyland... I don't know. I guess a temporary show would be fine, but I don't think a lot of people would be happy with a nightly Star Wars display for the next 5-10 years. I do see this being a promotional tool for Star Wars land though, so a temporary show shouldn't be out of the question.

Can't say I'm too happy if this is true. No Disney park on Earth should rely so much on one sole property in my opinion.

As for post Star Wars land plans, we have a Marvel land and the rumored Fantasyland expansion coming to Anaheim, so that should be interesting.

Well it's only a bounce back offer. If they offered this to everyone now that would be bizarre. I'm thinking the crowds were down more this year than what's being said and they had to do something.
It also must be booked by 9/30, when in the past it's been bookable through 10/31, end even to 11-15. With as busy as the fall has become, it would not shock me if 2017 had no public offer.

I kind of like it. It's very 80's sci-fi-ish. At least they are doing something to update Tomorrowland's look.

Painting the roses red is one thing. But painting the rocks metallic purple? Yeah, no. To me it looks tacky. Hope they don't start in on the trees next.

We'll have to see what they do with the rest of the land. It kind of reminds me of one of those old pieces of concept art with plans to renovate Tomorrowland (can't remember which one). It could either be tacky or feel like a classic approach to sci-fi, so we'll see. I do think the paint makes the rocks look fake, though.

Now that wouldn't shock me either. It seems the fall is becoming busier and busier while the summer is losing crowds a bit. I know Disney doesn't like the free dining offer.

The dates are what is bizarre. Completely different than previous years, and free dining over 4th of July?? Weird! Lol

I thought it was weird, too, offering it over 4th of July!
Are rack room prices higher then, thus diminishing the value of the " free " dining?!
Oh, and Labor Day 2017 is another included bounce back offer time.

Purple?! It'll make me think of Prince. I'm a Minnesotan, & now we have an official State color--Purple.

I HATE the idea of a Star Wars show in Disneyland. It's grosses me out. I could see doing a Star Wars WOC (even that's kind of gross) but it just seems so inappropriate as the night time show. Hope this is false. It's bad enough that the Star Wars land is going into Disneyland proper. They need to maintain a strict separation in DL and the MK, IMO. I just don't want to see Star Wars crap on the castle, it's a weird cognitive and emotional dissonance.

I still don't think DHS's ToT will ever see an overlay. It's too iconic and I don't see the point - it's a classic, popular attraction as it is. Why waste the money to make something new? I really think this rumor was always just a misunderstanding of the plans to overlay the DL version. This latest update amounts to little more than 'maybe they will, maybe they won't' - he'll be right either way.

Bob Iger and Bob Chapek don't care about the history of Disneyland and keeping that separation. If they did Star Wars wouldn't be going into that park of course.

Iconic doesn't mean anything to Disney executives these days...
