If what they say about the lack of bathrooms is true, it's no wonder there are problems. Wonder how many trash cans there are. Not enough, apparently...or else people don't know what they are for.

There are enough bathrooms and trash cans. It's just that culturally speaking, they may not see bathrooms the same way we do. I've read of quite a few unpleasant experiences happening five feet away from a bathroom. It's more a matter of how to educate your guests. Good luck with that, Disney.

They did release the etiquette guide but that hasn't helped apparently.

"According to Apple Daily, Shanghai Disneyland has even fewer washrooms, with the visitor to washroom ratio being 4,500 to 1 instead of the more generous 1,500 to 1 at the Hong Kong Disneyland."

Is Shanghai that much smaller than Hong Kong Disney? I don't have any idea, but can't believe they wouldn't build enough....

Well, interestingly enough, Shanghai is actually quite bigger than Hong Kong if I recall. Who knows... I'm sure Disney knew that the Chinese had a different concept of bathrooms and acted accordingly, but one would expect them to try to ''educate'' the guests in a more American fashion. Many people in China are not even familiar with the Western concept of a toilet.

It's fascinating, really. The last thing I'd do being in such a pretty place would be to ruin their flower beds.

I agree - I'm sure they built adequate washrooms. The visitor to washroom ratio means little without know how large the washrooms are. There could be fewer in Shanghai but more guest capacity due to size. Either way, this whole thing kind of makes me sad. I would love to visit all the overseas parks, Shanghai is the only one I feel trepidation about. Hopefully they can get the issue under control, and maybe have a positive impact on the culture.

Anybody know what's wrong with 7DMT? We have been in line since 9 AM and it is still closed.

It was down for hours on both of our MK days 3 weeks ago. We missed both fp+ and tried to ride after our pre-park openning breakfast at BOG but the cast member quickly informed us after the line was formed that the ride was having computer issues and she could not estimate a time that the ride would be functional. Needless to say, we were at wdw for 10 days and didnt ride it once. Luckily, our 6 yo son said it was a kiddie ride and he had rather ride BTMR.

It's the reverse - Shanghai Disneyland is huge and Hong Kong Disneyland is tiny. It did feel like there were quite a few bathroom at Hong Kong Disneyland ... but I think the issue is more cultural than number of facilities

Not sure if just passing out an etiquette guide is sufficient but not sure what Disney can do/how people would react to getting kicked out of the park for littering, etc.

Maybe. But I just see videos of that new park, Tokyo and Hong Kong and I see rides and technologies that will not soon (if ever) make it to the US, en masse. Why would they even spend money to significantly upgrade the US parks if attendance doesn't drop off? It wouldn't be a good investment and I don't really expect them to do it. This goes especially for rides like Pirates or Pooh that are significantly improved overseas, above what the US has.

I just don't see Star Wars Land, Toys Land and Avatar being enough to completely "catch up" to those other parks. For now, in one person's opinion, it feels like the US parks are second class citizens. And I don't see how that changes.

It will open tomorrow. How long it stays open is the question.

That could be a game-changer, hopefully.

Admittedly, I'm just a little down having visited WDW a couple weeks ago - without the new Soarin', FEA or ROL. Epcot seems so outdated right now. What seems like half of DHS is closed off (by area, not by ride/attraction count). The Jungle Book show was a dud. Finally getting to ride 7DMT for the first time and being unimpressed.

I would hold out more hope for improvements coming down the road, but like I said in the previous post, I don't even think I could logically argue for major upgrades to existing rides.
