The Running Thread - 2026

Here's my travel tip of the day: when going out of the country, make sure you download the Netflix, HBO, etc. shows you want for the treadmill BEFORE you leave the country. Travel tip #2: Most streaming services can now detect you are using a VPN and are not where you claim to be located (although admittedly in this case I'm probably not tech smart enough to figure out another way or better VPN).
lol! I’m in a little bit of a similar situation. All the Indiana Jones talk in the MW thread makes me want to rewatch Raiders but I can’t get it on any streaming service where I am.

Also - I don’t know if this is just a Canadian streaming thing but sometimes even if I’ve downloaded something, if I connect to Wi-Fi in a different country the downloaded episodes/ movies disappear until I’m back in Canada Netflix is particularly bad this way.

Nord's VPN is pretty good at not being recognized by HBO and other streaming services. WiTopia is excellent too, if you're looking for alternatives.

Morning! Whilst my socks stretch, I have another question for the group: does/has anyone here run in Mount to Coast shoes? I’m eyeballing the R1. I’m not running ultras, but as a slow runner looking at doing Goofy, I’m realizing a shoe made for ultra running might be just what I need for 6+ hours on my feet. The reviews are almost entirely glowing, but I’d love to hear from anyone here who’s tried them!

My treadmill started making a terrible sound yesterday. We called Peloton and they’re sending a tech to look at it. On March 26 😭😭 the roads are treacherous outside. All the accumulated snow has started melting, then froze again, so it’s just a skating rink everywhere. I’m supposed to do 12 miles today.

Happy to say that I have worn my Stitch shoes 3x and so far no issues with the width. They were a bit of an impulse/risky purchase at DL (along with Chip and Dale) After the Ghost issue, I got these in wide and they fit the bill in that I put them on, lace them up and run, and don’t notice them after that.

Plus, they feel like spring-not in a shoe sense, but in a seasonal sense. The colors and floral inside make me feel like it’s just around the corner. That and the 65 ° temp yesterday melted the remaining stubborn snow patches on the north side of the house.

Now if only I didn’t feel like sludge when I run!

Yes you cannot allow the service to connect/recognize what country you are in if you want to watch content that is specific to your home region. What i do if i have something from "home" service i want to watch is ensure it is DL the turn my device on airplane mode and leave wi fi off. This way i can watch anything that is DL offline and not be affected by the local region.

Alternatively sometimes there is content in the "travel" region that you want to watch in this case connect to wi fi and youll get access to the new regions content.

Im also in Canada and some services have better things in the US vs CA so i usually connect to wi fi in the US DL things i want to watch at home and then dont reconnect to wi fi at home till ive watched all the US programming 😂 this is how i watched the second season of disneys animal kingdom show cause they never released it on CA disney +.

There are also sites that mimic other country VPNs to get around those issues but i always find that too much work 🤣

I wasn't understanding WHY this was being given as an option, but from what others are saying, it seems like they are anticipating (or maybe this already happened, since it's Saturday night) really bad heat?

I would normally agree with those saying "you should only get a finisher's medal if you finish", but in this case of safety, I'm not sure how I'd feel about it. If getting the medal is going to encourage someone to stop at 18 miles when they likely would have had a heat stroke in those extra miles, then good. Some people are not so good at weighing decisions, especially if they may be doing it on the fly during the race when they are already suffering cognitive impairment from heat exhaustion.

Ideally, I'd like to see the medal with some sort of asterisk, somehow, for those folks.
Personally, I wouldn't want the medal or to cross the finish line. But if someone else wants to it doesn't bother me.
