News Round Up 2016

It is interesting. Right now, anything mainland can do to take anything from HK they do. Driving tourism away from HK and to mainland is a top priority.

Closing is the extreme... driving it to the brink so the partnership (of which China is not a part of) is re-evaluated and turned over to China much like Shanghai... well thats a different story.

Its an interesting 7-10 year storyline to watch.
china and hong kong government is like saying china or shanghai goverment. they are the same. the only way disney would close one of it's parks is if the government buys them out. and I know there were offers of that a couple years back. frankly I wouldnt be surprised of disney sold shanghai to the chinese government eventuaally because of all the problems they have dealing with local officials

I'm still really torn on whether or not this is purely technical issues, or if Pete is onto something from the show.

Either way, this is a disappointment.

The only curiosity is that Shanghai was struggling before they released the 4/22 opening date, right? So why release a firm date and -then- delay? It would be easier, although still annoying, to just keep up with the 'coming soon' for months and months..

OTOH, why release a firm date if your tech is not up to snuff? Unless they thought they could get it figured out in time.

I think it's time to thaw out Uncle Walt and let him lay the smack down. You know he wouldn't put up with this 'stuff'. :)

I must have the Starjets shirt.

The Hong Kong regional government is a separate entity with its own finances and a pseudo-constitution. China is responsible for security. But due to a lot of discussion not fit for this forum, the grey area between HK and Mainland has grown with mainland pursuing more control. All this stems from agreements put in with the transfer from British to China control.

Hong Kong Disneyland is a partnership between TWDC and the Hong Kong regional government. Its messy, but it is legally not a contract with China.

I haven't seen one thing about the delay being related to Shanghai this has to be purely techincal problems.

Tom Corless was 'breaking' news that RoL was gearing up to launch just days before it was hard-postponed. People are quick to dismiss Jim Hill, but wdwnt's news is hardly reliable, unless clearly sourced from elsewhere.
I agree WDWNT is not that reliable especially when it comes to this.

This is the crap that irritates me with Disney. They can't afford to have a couple of cast members on hand to run both sides of Dumbo over Easter, but having CMs hanging around to communicate the back story of a completely fictitious town to the handful of people that care ( but not enough to just read a flyer) is cool spending.
They will always make the media feel extra special. Good press is big for them of course.
