News Round Up 2016

I love the Jungle Cruise, but I recognize that my love is colored by nostalgia. My kids could take it or leave it. I honestly think they were a little disappointed that there weren't real animals like we had just seen in Animal Kingdom.

What it really needs is an overhaul of the audioanimatronics, keeping the boats and skippers. Throw in a few exciting effects, and I think you're back in business with the younger crowd, while keeping the older folks happy.

Also... it's a ride that I highly recommend taking at night. The atmosphere increases the cool factor exponentially.

Wait a minute, maybe I missed it somewhere, but they are charging $39 to pick up your packet on race day now?
It showed up on the website as an option to have your packet delivered to your hotel so you don't have to go to the expo. It hasn't been officially announced.

First I heard about that too - but doing some more research seems like this is just if you don't want to go to the expo and sounds like they will gather together an pre-purchased merchandise as well ... so isn't just the packet. Basically a fee for not having to spend a good amount of time at the Expo going to multiple booths, etc.

Seems like a lot of these "extras" - what is the $ value of your time?

There was a dedicated email sent out to participants about it with a link to the site.

Small World presents so many opportunities for improvement though. I think it would benefit from new lighting, next generation effects, some new show scenes, and a top to bottom cleaning/replacement of props in order to make it look great. It looks its age. I love the attraction but it needs work. Even just better upkeep would be great. Peeling paint and mold is not cool.

The wonky eyed hippo is both hilarious and annoying because it's been broken for so long now.

Guess I never even thought about not wanting to go to the expo. I love things like that (go to the Arnold every year). Plus the free taping makes it worth it. But even if I didn't, seems like a stiff price just to not need to go to the expo.

Yeah I like the expo especially looking around at things I might buy.

There are people who won't be getting to Orlando until the night before their race, after the expo closes; it gives them a chance to get their packet in time without changing their plane tickets, etc, so I'm sure the $39 is worth it to them!

I think you're missing the point of the Jungle Cruise. While Walt may have originally intended it to simulate an actual Jungle, it's been past that for 30 years. The fun of the jungle cruise is the TERRIBLE jokes. That said, the right skipper makes ALL the difference.

Edit: Actually a newer joke the last few years is "Has anyone here seen the Jungle Book? It's right over there" (Skipper points at a book laying on a box.)

It's not that I'm missing the fact that's what they do it's that the fact they do it doesn't make the ride any better. Bad jokes are just bad jokes.

I kind of feel that way about Peter Pan Flight. Besides the transportation system, I really think that's one of those rides that really shows its age and that could really use some plussing. I haven't seen the refurbished version from DL, but it could definitely use some more drastic changes.

While it too could do with some plussing what Peter Pan has that Jungle Cruise doesn't is atmosphere. To me Jungle Cruise is just an old and very bland ride. LIttle Mermaid is a new but very bland ride and Peter Pan is an old ride that oozes atmosphere.

Hmm, can I sum up the last few pages and potentially the next several?

A = Any Disney ride
B = Any other Disney ride.

Person 1: I think that *A* should be replaced or updated.

Person 2: But I love going on *A*. Nothing should ever change!

Person 3: Something something something, Walt's intentions, something something.

Person 2: Well, *B* should be outright demolished. I can't stand it.

ad nauseum.

If it's true that Lucasfilm has mandated that no Disney character may dress in Star Wars attire any longer, I strongly doubt that they'll be able to do a Muppet satire of the same.
You still have (as someone else mentioned I think) Pigs in Space!
