News Round Up 2016

We saw Zootopia Friday night and loved it. I can't get that song out of my head! lol The entire family enjoyed it more than any other Disney movie in recent memory. It's certainly better than Good Dinosaur and Inside Out. So many fun Easter Eggs throughout! We will definitely go back and see it at least a second time during spring break, and I would not rule out a third viewing in the theaters. Yes, it was that good!

That makes me wonder.....why does Disney keep hiring these contract people, who aren't Disney trained cast members? Is it really worth hiring these contract people and saving a few extra dollars when you are not getting quality work and bad press?

What would "Disney trained cast members" bring to the table that you think is missing?

Disney "training" has been pathetically short for a long time and casting is a meat factory...

This isn't 1955...or 71...or even 85 for that matter.

People need to accept a touch of reality on this...the prices we all pay doesn't go toward ensuring "quality" staff. They deconstructed that model in the 90's.

With as many employees as they have, there's going to be a portion that are not the people you want to clean your table.

If you eat your food directly off a table, you get the cold sore you deserve.

Ah so now it's our fault that Disney doesn't pay their staff well and train or monitor them properly. We should probably pay them more money to make up for our incompetence.

Not at all what I'm saying. I think it's percentages and sociology. For what it's worth, I do not believe pay wouldn't totally eliminate it.

BUT, you do have to exercise some common sense. I personally wouldn't eat directly off a table pretty much anywhere. Certainly not somewhere with thousands of guests a day.

We pay enough that they should (see their current record profits). And it doesn't take much to ensure quality employees - offer $3-$5/hour more than any other cleaning job in the area (and thrown in 4-6 free 1 day tickets for the family to the parks) and you won't be able to keep competent cleaning people away...$3/hour more X 2000 hours is $6K more per year per employee...a drop in the bucket on profits (which are in the BILLIONS), but a world of difference in employee quality...and better employees work harder for you...they could give EVERY employee in the US parks (about 100,000 and I'll assume ALL are full time which we know is not even close) this kinda hourly raise and still only take away (at most) 10% of their total profit number for the year...

Here's the thing though. I've seen many (and I mean MANY) complaints on price increases, lower quality, how horrible the new pricing system is, and how penny pinching they are, yet I keep seeing even more people saying stuff like: ''I'll make sure to book my next two trips before the price increases'' ''I'll make sure to take desinfecting wipes with me on my next trip'' or ''We usually go five times a year, but now I decided that we are going only four times this year'' I mean... I know we all love some magic, but can we just accept that as long as we allow this to happen Disney is going to keep doing it? I'm not telling anyone to cancel their next trip, but let's be realistic. Customers used to have more power.

On a more positive note, I watched Zootopia yesterday, and it's a great film. It has a really sharp script, great comedy, beautiful animation and a really strong message. Some of the references and Easter Eggs are hilarious. Some inconveniences with my local theater didn't allow me to enjoy some aspects of the film like its score, but overall I was really satisfied. I'd have to watch it again to decide if this or Tangled is the best one out of the Disney Revival.

I don't disagree with anything you said...but it's not reality.

Yep...I'm at this table - no pun intended.

100%...we can't complain about lack of quality and keep gobbling it up.

There's no reason to increase quality when there's a line down the block with credit cards blazing.

As an employer for the past oh, 25 years (small scale) and the last 10 plus in FL, I can tell you that it doesn't much matter what you pay as far as getting quality help--- a cleaning position is a cleaning position. You can pay more, but you are still hiring from the same pool. People will quickly adjust their lives from living below cost of living to living a little less below cost of living.... and then they will perform as they normally would.... It's human nature....
Edit to add.. if you pay them more, they will just hate you more when you fire them.

You're way to cynical for me, dude.

Disney is magic...pure magic...and anyone would be lucky to clean the beds In a $700 "club level" room at the poly that is worth about $275.

Don't bring me down, you demon.

It's like a bad relationship apparently. You know you shouldn't but you get back together "one more time" :D

Just take a look at the Purple Magic Band thread to see exactly why Disney can charge as much as they like and behave however they like and still have people lining up.

It's brain washing on a scientological scale...
