News Round Up 2016

More restrictions + less attractions + security flaws + construction galore + overcrowding + ???

I appreciate the value that people have for carrying food and drinks into the parks, but I have to say that I've enjoyed my most recently visits wholly unencumbered by backpacks or other things to carry during my day.

It's actually pretty cool to leave your Resort room with nothing other than a Magic Band on your wrist. This is really a big plus of a WDW vacation for me.

So far spirit is the only one reporting the food and drink restriction correct?

It seems like a lot of people are taking this as a done deal. Spirit has a pretty decent track record but he's far from 100% accurate.

Almost everyone on the boards takes these things as a done deal. Plus, just complaining about it doesn't mean that one thinks it will really happen. I will believe it when they pry my beef jerky from my cold dead hands:)

Well he's incredibly more accurate than Jim Hill is.

I agree. This one just struck me as a bit vague. No matter what happens he's right. I'm sure no one doubts this gets considered on a regular basis.

So forgive my ignorance because I don't keep up with these things... but what changed?

Seriously... what happened? Its like someone woke up with a stick you know where and said... "I'm sick of being the "magical" company. I'm sick of trying to make people happy. I don't care about surveys. Screw em all!" And boom... in a matter of 6 months they've changed the entire company culture from one of the 'Happiest Place on Earth' to one of 'We're just like everyone else - now give us your money and get in line!'

I never thought I'd see the day the LoL looked like an optimist. Much less that it would happen within weeks.

Longtime lurker, sometimes poster. Rteetz- love the constant news feed here.

Posters in the Theme Park Strategies board claiming that the ROL dining packages becoming available for booking tomorrow- is there anything behind that!?

It hasn't really happened overnight but it has been a progression. It started very slow when Iger took over but has been picking up over the last year or so. There was a point in 2009 I believe or maybe it wasn't that far back but Iger was actually looking to see if someone would buy the parks from Disney. The prince with stake in Parks was a potential buyer. Thankfully that never happened.

I have been following that thread. It seems to be on with what's been out there. I'm waiting for a more firm confirmation though.

Got it. Thanks.

Curious to see if/how Tiffins plays into this. I don't think I'd book it at Tusker but the ability to try a new resto+ guaranteed seating likely would tempt me. We'll be there 4/23-4/30.

The current thought is Y+Y will not be a part of this right?

Yes I don't think yak and yeti will be part of it because they are owned by a third party.

I wonder if Tiffins will be open that soon. That's why I think they are doing the package at TH. I don't know if ROL seating could really support a dining package at TH, Tiffins, and Flame Tree. Flame Tree is rumored to be doing one too.

Yes, I don't think Tiffins will be ready yet. However they could do three locations. A signature restaurant (Tiffins), a table service (TH), and a quick service (FTBBQ).

Yes I believe so. This would be to have people stop bringing in small coolers and such. Disney would much rather them be spending money in the parks.

This is a really crappy idea for people with very small children. It would actually keep me from returning until my kids are much older.

Interesting. My family has traveled to WDW since I was 9 months old and we have never brought a cooler to the parks. We have brought a small bag of snacks sure but never a cooler. Just my take I guess.

Stockholders, that's what happened.
