News Round Up 2016

Like the second busiest month long period a year that starts in about 10 days?

10 days is a long time to install some monitors.
Don't Spring vacations tend to occur near Easter (March 29)?
Spring break more like April?

I'll admit I don't pay attention to guest flow this time of year as I tend to favor the fall and winter at the end of the year.

The peak weeks saddle Easter...but many places operate on different calendars and it's a rolling schedule that typically encompasses March and early April to varying degrees

Lots of incoming visitors? Demand pricing? Somebody's getting a bonus for getting this in place by Easter.

And I'm willing to bet they are going to spend a lot of time, effort, and money to get this in, so someone can show they made $1.25Million more in demand pricing.

Just don't look at the $1.75Million in extra costs spent to get it in as a last minute shove job.

Disney has never pre announced. I guarantee they have the PR data that tells them take the hit with the big bang on Sunday, don't try to sugarcoat it or roll it out softly. Just do it and its over.

And this year is an odd year - at least here in NYC. NYC public schools "spring break" is actually tied to Passover (not sure any other municipalities are - probably not). Normally it syncs up with Easter. However, this year, they are a month apart. NYC public schools aren't off until the week of April 25. My children go to a Catholic school and we're off right after Easter.

The pricing examples you provide make me wonder if they'll have an actual impact on crowds. Based on no facts I can point to, I have a *feeling* that dates like NYE and F&W weekends probably see a lot of AP foot traffic. The average NYE person is likely to have a more complex ticket package than just a day visit.
I know a number of people that go on these special days that are not annual pass holders. And think about the run that fall a during food and wine festival. Most of the runners are NOT ap holders

I can't convince anyone in New Jersey of this...but the fact is many portions of the country aren't tied to a religious holiday at all. Some have trimester formats. The warmer portions of the country (Florida) end their calendars around 5/1. And remember that colleges also are all over the place - not a huge driver of travel to wdw but I bet quite a few people still do use that window to travel.

It's really covers a lot more than "Easter". But like I said - I try to convince my mother in law of this and she doesn't believe me...but she also is clueless that they are no more than 15% Catholics everywhere west of Philadelphia...even though it's the truth.

Anyway...there's a reason why 2/15-5/1 are never classified as the "slower" seasons on the Hotel rack charts.

As far as the NYC schools and why it's tied to Passover...here's a hint: ITS THE TEACHERS :teacher:

I know nothing about the eastern part of the country and their off times but here in Wisconsin we are mostly Tied to have spring break with Easter. A good amount thigh are starting to change that and go to a set spring break that doesn't have Easter. I know mine we get off the Thursday before Easter and then the whole following week after Easter.

The vast majority of visitors on every day at wdw are on longer term multiday tickets or passes. It's been their sales model since MGM opened.

Which means that tier pricing will absolutely apply to multiday tickets in the near future if not immediately.
I see massive pass increases too steaming out on the horizon somewhere.

Right...but that's kinda a regional thing and that was the point.

In my kids district (North East Ohio area) used to always have off the last week of march no matter when Easter was. The last 2 years they have switched. We now get of the week before Easter through the Monday after. The year they are getting off the Friday before the week off. They are off 10 days including the weekends.

In my off topic comment, I lost a legit question.

Do we know historically when the changes are made? How are they announced? Is it something that changes at 12:00am Eastern online? When the first park opens on Sunday? When the last park closes on Sunday?

Well it's usually always on a Sunday and it's done basically overnight. Sunday morning signs are changed and Sunday morning it appears on the Disney website.

Thanks to this thread, I (finally) convinced my husband that we need to buy our ELEVEN 5-day tickets for Thanksgiving asap. He was holding out, saying he'd make more than the price increase by investing the money, but I'm not willing to take that chance! There are too many unknowns at this point and I'm cheap :D

News

A permit was filed for attraction install at the flight of passage ride for avatar. It seems the ride system is going to be installed from the permit.

As much as WDW wants us to plan in advance - and stay on property- I wonder if the day-of pricing will be very dynamic (thus the new electronic boards), but packages will be priced differently, maybe in broader tiers. They have to have a better plan for tiered pricing than the silly calendar that came out with the survey. I wonder how this will impact organizations like UT and Maple Leaf and others? I realize Disney doesn't "care" about them, though Disney does benefit from their existence. So. Many. Questions.

I agree...I've been scratching my head since the news hit of the survey.

It's ballsy...they feel there product is so in demand and satisfaction is so high that people will sign up to be yanked around so they can extract every nickel...literally

Perhaps they should walk through Epcot and take another look...
