Not necessarily. Frozen (kinda original), inside out. It all depends on the story and such. These remakes are way too close to the chest for my liking
I believe he was talking about Disneys live action movies. There haven't been any love actions recently from Disney that have done well. Disney animation always does ok for the most part unless they really screw up.
Yes - that's what I meant. Live action end if you look at the slate for the next 5 years, it's all Marvel, Star Wars, and live action remakes - with the occasional feel-good real-life drama thrown in. (The Finest Hours is the next one of these.) Oh wait, there's a Pirates of the Caribbean sequel...
...It's why I was rooting hard for Tomorrowland to be a success. Admittedly John Carter, Lone Ranger, and Tomorrowland weren't great, but them all tanking badly is gonna make Disney gunshy on trying original ideas.
To keep with a news thread - here's Disney's current slate for the next two years:
January 29th 2016: "The Finest Hours"
March 4th 2016: "Zootopia"
April 15th 2016: "The Jungle Book"
May 6th 2016: "Captain America: Civil War"
May 27th 2016: "Alice Through the Looking Glass"
June 17th 2016: "Finding Dory"
July 1th 2016: "The BFG"
August 12th 2016: "Pete's Dragon"
November 4th 2016: "Doctor Strange"
November 23rd 2016: "Moana"
December 16th 2016: "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story"
March 17th 2017: "Beauty and the Beast"
March 31st 2017: "Ghost in the Shell"
May 5th 2017: "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2"
June 16th 2017: "Cars 3"
July 7th 2017: "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales"
November 3rd 2017: "Thor: Ragnarok"
November 22nd 2017: "Coco"
December 22nd 2017: Untitled Disney Fairytale Project (Live Action)
Dec 2017: "Star Wars: Episode VIII"
I highlighted in red the projects that are "Original" - and that's stretching it. After The Finest Hours, 3 are animated. The BFG I will give them credit for at least it has not been put to film before. The last one, Ghost in the Shell isn't really original - but seeing as it is a remake of Japanese Manga - I will give this one a pass as it is at least original to Disney. (And Disney is only co-financing this one.)
Don't get me wrong - I am looking forward to a lot of these movies. But there's not a lot of risk here.
