Jim Hil musings on Animal Kingdom

Disney is looking at possibly bringing Zootopia into this park if the movie does well. (Conservation station area)

Rivers of light will seat around 6000. Disney is undecided whether they will run Everest during the show. It's also possible the show may not run every night.

Rhode worked on that movie, so it makes sense that he would be interested in adding some Zootopia related stuff to the park. On the other hand, unless the film performs really well on the box office, I don't think they plan to do anything big with that one. I'm expecting a Big Hero 6/Wreck it Ralph level of success, which should guarantee a meet and greet and not a lot more. A new show, perhaps?

Jim says that the crowds that come for Pandora will hopefully stress the need for increasing capacity which would then lead to a Zootopia presence in the park. He also says that that is what they hope will happen for Epcot-- Frozen and the new Soarin bringing in the crowds to justify increasing capacity and adding more new attractions.

Typical Jim hill made up nonsense.

The most "presence" that zootopia will have in the park is a couple of carboard cutouts.

They don't think about putting things in the parks before these movies open...maybe standard musings.

As always...this didn't need to be said let alone spewed as "media" of any kind...

Sorry running all over today, just finished Fantasmic waiting for star wars.

I like that the gates are somewhat subtle...not kinda gaudy like the ones at bay lake or art of animation

Edit: I just reread that...I mean "no more gaudy" than the be-otchin' orange and brown Brady bunch style of the rest of the Polynesian.

Lol

The directors and producers also studied animals for the movie right at AK.

I just report. I think it's possible depending on the success of the movie and based on trailers I think it's promising. This is good Disney animation. We just have to see if the story is there for the masses to catch onto.

I'm surprised seating will be around 6000. Doesn't seem anywhere near as big as F! (without standing room). Also, the show might not run every night? I just don't see that. Unless people don't like it (which is really hard to imagine), F! packs em in as does WoC. I could see them doing away with the expense of the Star Wars fireworks before they don't utilize a show with lower overhead.

I just posted something skeptical too. Please don't think I'm debating you. Just discussing Hill's comments. Thanks for a great thread!

Fantasmic seats about 7,000 plus another 3,000 standing. I don't think standing room will be able to handle that much so we are looking at a smaller capacity than fantasmic.

I think it's possible it doesn't run every night after the new-ness runs off. For the first year it's probably going to run every night but maybe after that it slows down. I would think Jim is wrong here though and it does run every night.

One thing we will always agree on. Probably the only thing accurate in that statement is that the ROL will hold 6000, and that they might shut down Everest when it's running. (In fact I'm guessing they WILL.)

The part about it not running every night is pure BS. No way, Jose. The problem they'll have is having enough seating for all the people that want to see it. Unless the show sucks, which would be a whole different problem (though I think unlikely.) Maybe in 5 years they do what they did with Fantasmic for a while and only run it certain nights - but that didn't sit well with folks. Even though this and Pandora might make AK a full day park, it likely isn't a multi day park to most people...and people would want to see the show on their one day there. If they ran it say 4 days a week the park would be overrun.

Zoopotia presence in AK? Yeah - like Good Dinosaur in DINOland? Again, unlikely unless it's a monster hit and the fact they are releasing it in March tells me they don't think it is. (Why do you think Good Dinosaur went in November not in summer slot?)

Yeah, people still pack World of Color, even when there are fireworks, often 2 shows a night. Seeing that show is rough between needing a FP, having to either line up very early or stand in the back and then stand so long and people still do it. Also by the time the new-ness wears off, Avatar will be open. As long as AK can actually draw in evening crowds, I see Disney trying to keep them there.

I don't know about this. I think they have marketed Zootopia better than good dinosaur. I didn't have an urge to see good dinosaur. I do however want to see Zootopia. The trailers are pretty good and the story looks promising.

Yup. The positive side is it would make the other 3 days very attractive times to be at Animal Kingdom.

But I agree that I think they'll run this every night for the foreseeable future.

My one bit of advice for you:
Not all hacks that state they "know"
Disney are worth repeating.

This clown repeats every scheme he reads...half the time makes things up beyond that...guesses right 7 times out of every 1000 and claims victory.

This is popular gag:
"I hear that they are looking at movie X for park Y..."

Just insert the variables with whatever you want.

Its tired.

Here's what I noticed: it takes 5-10 years and a documented history of product sales for them to get around to putting things in that are critically acclaimed smashes...like the little mermaid or toy story.
