News Round Up 2016

Rumor

Well I have some bad news folks...

Spirit is back and says that Disney execs are liking the plans for the DCA ToT redo so much so that DHS is also going to get it... However it won't come until after Toy Story opens in 2018.

He says Ellen's Energy Adventure has new plans that if it happens would open for the WDW 50th. He does not give an IP but says that Tron was one of the ideas tossed around.

He says WDI had plans for the guardians coaster in Epcot but costs sky rocketed and passed up the cost of radiator springs racers which is the most expensive attraction Disney has built. The coaster would have been similar to the planned Captain america coaster for DCA.
That s*cks. ToT is one of the best attractions at WDW and they have to mess with it. Take the dollars that would go into that and use them on the WOE replacement.

Any info about the new "marketplace" quick service supposedly coming to HS soon? Is this still in rumor status, or confirmed?

yep, not only is it one of the best WDW rides its one of the best in the world....

I personally wouldn't have ToT rated anywhere close to my top 10 attractions in Orlando so that might be a slight exagerration. However I don't get why they want to mess with a good attraction that is still very popular and in good working order. Spend that money on something new.

Adding onto what is above.

Great Movie Ride changes/redo plans are not dead.

DHS will become a park of all IP and nothing original. (I am trying to think is anything there right now is original)

Disney is going to spend money like never spent before (think disney decade) on Anaheim to keep their tax cuts and then some. We should be seeing teases at marvel things to come at DCA at D23.

Whatever goes into DCA marvel wise will be cloned for Shanghai.

Guardians Tower at DCA is tentatively planned for a May 27th opening.

Fantasmic 2.0 is set to open June 23rd.

PTN will then also debut back at Disneyland in the summer after its refurbishment.

PTN is not coming to WDW.

Must be. All I've heard is that it's is in that location, but I haven't heard any details- types of food, opening date, etc.
It likely won't be anything big. Likely similar to the kiosks that were set up around echo lake earlier this year.

Seriously? I mean I know its an opinionated question but ToT is an incredible attraction (the orlando version). I am honestly really surprised it wouldn't be in your top 10 for Orlando attractions.

You haven't been to UO. There are some top notch attractions there as well as WDW. I just know when we are planning our trips ToT doesn't come up for discussion. I enjoy it, but not one of my favs. As you pointed out though these types of things are very opinionated.

I haven't been to UO but even people who have been to all Universal and Disney theme parks put DHS ToT in their top 10. Even though I haven't been to UO I would likely put Potter attractions in my top 10 too because of what I have heard and seen about them.

I am not even going to worry myself about this  ...the ride hasn't even opened yet and so much could happen, it's not worth my fretting at the moment. When it's officially announced, then I'll fret...

BREAKING NEWS:
It's been a long road folks... A very very long painful road. Now the ordeal is finished. Universal Studios Dubailand is officially canceled.

http://www.tradearabia.com/news/CONS_315810.html

What's Universal Studios Dubailand?

Oh, I guess this hasn't really been on people's radar. So during the mid 2000s a bold plan was put forth. A new theme park Resort would be built on the deserts of Dubai. This development, known as Dubailand, was designed to dwarf Walt Disney World. Every provider was signing up. They had a Marvel Park, they had a major Six Flags Park, they had Dreamworks, they had Legoland, and they had much much more.

It was an attempt to redefine both European and Asian travel by having one singular hub for tourists in the Old World. It would've been amazing. One of the major anchor parks was to have been a Universal Studios park/resort that would've called Dubailand home. This was done at a time when Universal Studios theme parks future was uncertain, and it was owned by multiple different parties. I believe this was going to be a franchise, but don't quote me on that. ;) Much like Universal Singapore, Universal Korea (never going to get built due to funding), and Universal Moscow.

It wasn't going to break boundaries, but the plans called for some neat things.

What ended up doing this park and Resort in?

Well three things:
1) Recession- Dubailand required free and easy money. Once that money dried up, the project became much more difficult to pull off.
2) Potter- Universal Studios Park and Resorts has grown rapidly and they no longer require the aid of foreign partners to build their parks.
3) Comcast- Comcast now owns and operates most of the Universal Resorts, new Resorts bear only government partners. Once again, there's money and disinterest in helping 3rd parties when they feel they can build on their own. That is with the exception of an indoor Universal Studios Moscow park being built right now. That was grandfathered in though. Should be amusing.

So Dubailand crumbled away and projects ended up splintered. The marvel park ended up being built somewhere else in Dubai indoors, only considerably less impressive than envisioned. The smurfs, Dreamworks, Legoland, and Six Flags ended up at another Resort that is about to open later this year. Now with Universal Studios Dubailand officially dead, the nightmare can end.

One question you might be asking is if Disney ever contemplated a Dubai project. This may seem silly because Disney was digging in its heels with DLP and Shanghai, but what if? Well a firm that is associated with WDI did a Dubai theme park mockup in what must of been post 2012 of a Disneyland Dubai. This park complete with a Miracosta like hotel in which guests could sleep inside the castle, is a radical departure from a classic castle park. Food for thought...

Worth noting that the original blog that posted it was ordered to take it down due to copyright infringement by... Walt Disney.

(Forgive the writer, he doesn't get that one side of the castle would be the park side and the other would be the drive up side. Very clever handling of the castle)

While on the subject of Universal Studios, one other thing caught my eye. Universal has been hard at work building what will surely be an impressive resort in Bejing. I'm still not sure about placement, but we'll see. Either way, their government partners released plans for a new transit station designed just for the Resort. It looks beautiful:

One of the pics caught my eye. I'm especially proud of myself because it was on my phone too. :)

Do you see anything funny about this photo?

Does that look like a familiar face in Universal Beijing's Backdrop?!

As they say... Who's the leader of the club that's made for...

No, this appears to be some lazy attempt by the architectural firm to put in a theme park background to show there will be rides back there. It's just highly ironic that they choose Paradise Pier instead of something more, I don't know... Universal!

1. :mickeyjum

2. It's hard to imagine they won't at least try to continue to group the entire park into "lands", which leaves me to wonder... what kind of "land" will Tower of Te... errr... Guardians of the Galaxy fit into?? It sure ain't Old Hollywood!

3. ... on Anaheim.

4. WDW wants some lovin' too! :furious:
