BREAKING NEWS:
It's been a long road folks... A very very long
painful road. Now the ordeal is finished. Universal Studios Dubailand is
officially canceled.

What's Universal Studios Dubailand?
Oh, I guess this hasn't really been on people's radar. So during the mid 2000s a bold plan was put forth. A new theme park Resort would be built on the deserts of Dubai. This development, known as Dubailand, was designed to dwarf Walt Disney World. Every provider was signing up. They had a Marvel Park, they had a major Six Flags Park, they had Dreamworks, they had
Legoland, and they had much much more.
It was an attempt to redefine both European and Asian travel by having one singular hub for tourists in the Old World. It would've been amazing. One of the major anchor parks was to have been a Universal Studios park/resort that would've called Dubailand home. This was done at a time when Universal Studios theme parks future was uncertain, and it was owned by multiple different parties. I believe this was going to be a franchise, but don't quote me on that.

Much like Universal Singapore, Universal Korea (never going to get built due to funding), and Universal Moscow.
It wasn't going to break boundaries, but the plans called for some neat things.

What ended up doing this park and Resort in?
Well three things:
1) Recession- Dubailand required free and easy money. Once that money dried up, the project became much more difficult to pull off.
2) Potter- Universal Studios Park and Resorts has grown rapidly and they no longer require the aid of foreign partners to build their parks.
3) Comcast- Comcast now owns and operates most of the Universal Resorts, new Resorts bear only government partners. Once again, there's money and disinterest in helping 3rd parties when they feel they can build on their own. That is with the exception of an indoor Universal Studios Moscow park being built right now. That was grandfathered in though. Should be amusing.
So Dubailand crumbled away and projects ended up splintered. The marvel park ended up being built somewhere else in Dubai indoors, only considerably less impressive than envisioned. The smurfs, Dreamworks, Legoland, and Six Flags ended up at another Resort that is about to open later this year. Now with Universal Studios Dubailand officially dead, the nightmare can end.
One question you might be asking is if Disney ever contemplated a Dubai project. This may seem silly because Disney was digging in its heels with DLP and Shanghai, but what if? Well a firm that is associated with WDI did a Dubai theme park mockup in what must of been post 2012 of a
Disneyland Dubai. This park complete with a Miracosta like hotel in which guests could sleep inside the castle, is a radical departure from a classic castle park. Food for thought...
Worth noting that the original blog that posted it was ordered to take it down due to copyright infringement by... Walt Disney.

(Forgive the writer, he doesn't get that one side of the castle would be the park side and the other would be the drive up side. Very clever handling of the castle)
