News Round Up 2016

I can but can I ask a question?

Is it that hard to go onto the rumors board and see that the new thread is started? I mean it's going to be right under the stickys since its a new thread. Sorry if that sounds rude but it's a serious question of mine.

It's a convenience thing. 99% of the time I log into the boards and go to the notification for this thread, which takes me to the first unread post. I rarely go out to the rest of the boards unless I have some time to kill. At least that's my $.02

I understand that but if I say I start a new thread is it that hard to click the rumor and news board tab at the top of the page to take you to see where that new thread is?

I appreciate that you gave us the heads up that there was a new thread to go look for. A link does make it more convenient for us, but isn't necessary really. Thanks for all you do on this forum! I really love keeping up with all the latest news and rumors!

Interesting. Wasn't there a rumor of something being planned for the area where the transportation hub currently is? This basically confirms they have plans for that particular space.

If I am keeping my rumors straight I thought it was connected to the proposed Marvel Land that the GotG overlay of ToT would be part of

No - it's not. I was just answering your question. But on the flip side, is it that hard to include a hyperlink in your post if you're going to direct people anyway?

In my case, if I click on a link it opens up a new tab. If I click the button on this thread to return to the thread list then I'll lose my place in this thread.

I usually open up this thread, click all of the news links so they open up in new tabs, then read through the tabs and come back to this thread afterward.

It's not hard for me to manually open a new tab and navigate to the board & thread that way, it's just inconvenient and most of the time I won't bother.

Reading into what rteetzs is saying, it's not hard but it adds some more time with little benefit. As a volunteer moderator who already spends a lot of time, his time is valuable and he's already stated he doesn't feel like he needs to do that. And to his credit the new process was different but has done well and created more activity in concentrated threads. 1 click if he takes the time to do the link. 2 clicks if he doesn't. I think his time is more valuable and I've learned to just click the top link. Side benefit - you might see other interesting threads!

I agree. I was just trying to provide an opinion to a question that was asked - not start an OT discussion.

You can get around this by using the scroll wheel click function on your mouse. Clicking a link by pressing down on the scroll wheel should open the link in a new tab, regardless if the link is to an external site or internal page within the DisBoards.

You can also right click on any link, regardless if the link is to an external site or internal page within the DisBoards, and select "open link in new tab".

Not trying to add to the link/no link discussion, just providing a little tech tip.

Tablet surfing - no mouse ;)

Perhaps I could have phrased it differently...if you want a conversation to be taken off this thread to someplace else, then including a link may increase your success rate. Its not that we can't find the new thread, its that its easier to reply to the existing one. Again, just my 2 cents as I can (and do) find the other threads if I want to follow the conversation further, but I have seen so many times you mention another thread started without putting in the link and the conversation continues in this thread as if you hadn't posted anything.

Yes - many of us don't have the time to go to a hundred threads. That's what I liked about this thread compared to other sites, you could get all your news from one spot. This message board doesn't have the advantage of having many insiders, so it's biggest advantage was news was in one central location and you didn't have to do a lot of searching. Sure many of us don't like seeing the squabbling for pages and pages about the same topic, but we also don't want to go to different places searching for threads. I myself (and know I am not the only one) NEVER go to the main board. I only go to my watched threads here.

In rteetz's defence ... You don't need to go to 100 threads; you can still get all the "news" here without going to any of the dedicated topic threads (links provided or not). Major developments tend to get posted here when they break, even if there is already a dedicated thread. All you miss out on is the ongoing more opinionated and in-depth discussion about a particular news item. It's on you to pick and choose what's of interest to you and warrants a few more clicks.

Side note: @rteetz, I'm a high school teacher and I haven't met too many teenagers who have shown the kind of dedication you have to this thread ... and you handle the occaisional squabbles and complaints better than a lot of adults would.

another option is to follow the whole forum - and get email notifications when a new thread is added. Some are worth checking into - like Ryan's :) - and some you can just choose not bother with because there are umpteen others already out there with the same topic. I often see Ryan's new threads before I see here that he has started one.

EDITED: Here's the link - then click on WATCH FORUM on the right above the list

Well damn it, I want my money back if you aren't going to provide a link.:snark:

This isn't some paid subscription service. If someone provides a link, awesome. It need not be Rteetz. Anyone else can add a link for the unambitious to the thread.

I truly appreciate everyone's feed back. As a moderator I am watching dozens of threads on a daily basis. The rumors and news board isn't the only board I visit either I frequent several other boards here helping people out. I'll try my best to provide a link but sometimes I don't have time either.
