News Round Up 2016

This was going strong at the beginning of June. We went to Blizzard Beach on June 4th and 10th and Typhoon Lagoon on June 7th. We were really pleased to get many Photopass pictures at the water parks, especially since we opted to get Memory Maker for the first time. Why does Disney seem to promote things weeks after they've begun? :confused3

You could have been part of a trial. One that they found was a success because of interest just like yours. :)

Permits were filed for sound installation for avatar land at AK.

Permits were filed for a model room at Saratoga Springs. A model room is something they do before they start a room refurbishment across the resort. The model room gives them an idea for what they should look like.

Do they always do a model room at the resort they are building or refurbing a room? Or could it be for say the new upcoming rooms at DVC Wilderness Lodge. Where was the DVC Poly model room located if at all.

That is a possibility too. It's been speculated the permit could be for a model WL room but Saratoga is also around the time they would do a room refurb for the resort too so it could be either.

Thanks for the info. I can't remember where the Poly model room was but I want to say Saratoga Springs.

Just an FYI that the Star Wars Dessert Party is now bookable through the end of July and starting July 10th the actual party will take place inside the Star Wars Launch Bay and they you will be escorted out to the viewing area

Wonder if this means the actual roped off viewing area is changing in size to allow for more room with good view for other people

I am actually kind of excited for it to be inside the launch bay - be even cooler if characters are then part of it (but no mention of that)

Edit, per the HUB: Guests are immersed in the Star Wars experience, surrounded by photo opportunities, exciting exhibits and thrilling character encounters.
Does anyone know if they will extend the dessert party through August. Going on the 5th of August and would love to go

Finding Dory #1 again with $73M in domestic box office. Total take $286M with International haul at $110M.

Of note: This film has one of the strangest release strategies I've ever seen. It has not seen wide release yet, and doesn't open until end of September in Germany. So, looks like it'll be a long and slow earner - but at current rate, $1B is not unreasonable, but $800M is more likely.
800M seems on the low end of predictions. It would be a surprise if it did not surpass $1B. Close to $400M after 10 days, and still has not released in 23 markets including Japan, UK, South Korea, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Brazil -- that's 7 of the top 12 international markets. It is also a movie that is showing staying power even after just one weekend (4th best non opening Tuesday, 9th best non opening Wednesday, 8th largest second weekend after the 19th best opening weekends -- jumping 11 spots). In the four largest foreign markets it has opened so far it has had very comparable numbers to Zootopia (36 Million to 32 Million), but it has doubled what Zootopia had done after 10 days domestically (286 Million to 143 Million). With Zootopia crossing $1B, it seems Dory should be able to follow the same path unless it doesn't follow the current pattern. From what I read, they expect it to cross $1B...just sayin

The DVC rooms are always built at Sarotoga Springs. We have a friend that works in DVC and he gave us a tour of the SSR facility in October 2014. (It wasn't the standard DVC tour as we were already owners, but just took us through the rooms.) At that time, there were sample rooms for Aulani and VGF. In another area there had been rooms to show the AKV rooms, but they were all closed off for construction...we asked him if they were Poly rooms, but he said he could not tell us.

While it is quite possible they build full mock-ups of the refurb rooms - I would say that is extremely unlikely - I would guess that they model these things in a computer, and then they convert one of the actual rooms at the resort to see what it looks like. Any construction at SSR is all about constructing the new resort rooms. With the DVC WL being officially named, and probably about a year from going on sale - it would more likely be they are constructing the new rooms for there.
