Hey, I was simply pointing out that you can't divorce Avatar from it's roots as a 3D movie when it was the 3D movie. it is less about striking a chord than providing evidence that I didn't just pull 3D out of my butt and pretend that it was related to the movie's success. 3D *was* the movie's success. Without it, it would have simply been a passable Sci-Fi movie.

and i simply pointed out that in no way shape or form Disney regrets Avatar because of the success of another movie
which is why i responded in the first place

Nice to see the educational flyers dissuading folks from trying to buy their own Dory.

yeah, it really is. Clown fish became a huge problem after Finding Nemo and for a salt water tank, clown fish are fairly easy to care for (...an anemone on the other hand...) and don't need as much room. Blue Tangs though need a huge amount of space and a large tank in comparison (probably 100 gallons at a minimum for a juvenile and probably double that is best as it grows).

we just got back from a 3 night stay at Universal (we re dvc members) and my 17 year old and 13 year old both loved universal saying they like it better than disney

That's exactly the Universal demographic though - Disney has abdicated the "teen" demographic for years - just don't really try to compete with thrill rides. They don't even try. How many true thrill rides does Disney World have? 4? 5? Even a ride like everest is mellower than half the rides at Universal.

I posited earlier whether Avatar & Star Wars will end up being the start of them competing in that market. How thrilling will these new rides be - or will they continue with their policy of mild thrills.

Kong update:

The ride was in day 4 of extended TM previews last night. TM friends who went reported ongoing technical issues and downtimes. This is disappointing not only for guests and TMs, but for the entire creative team. They are looking to avoid the glitchy opening days reminiscent of Gringotts. We will more than likely not see a soft open for a week or so at this point, if that.

There is a rumor that the new decoration signage at one of the merch carts, which has a date of June 29th on it, is the planned opening date. In addition, a social media meet-up has been planned in the middle of the full media preview, to take place on the evening of June 23rd.

I am going tonight to take a peek and some photos. I am expecting to see the TM preview extended to tonight. I'll keep y'all posted.

i also think part of it was that it was new and different to my kids
Been there and done that, both of them are excited for Avatar and Star Wars
of course by the time star wars is done my son will be nearing the end of college and my daughter in high school, but still they re excited

Our daughter is 13 and is telling us "Disney is boring". We are finally doing a Universal trip next year, and I'm guessing we will see the same response.

I appreciate the few thrill rides Disney does have since we have kids from 16-8 going this Nov/Dec. I know my ds15 would love all the rides at Uni but it sounds like there wouldn't be much for the 8- and 9-year-olds to enjoy since they are still a bit skittish around the bigger rides at wdw. I'm glad there's just enough at wdw to keep the teens satisfied for now. This will be our last trip until after SW opens, I think.

Since there has been some Avatar/Pandora discussion, I will go ahead and mention the issue my wife and I have concerning the new AK land. We only recently watched Avatar (we never had the interest - we only watched it because of the upcoming land). Prior to watching it we had only seen the visuals in photos and what-not and agreed it could make an appealing land, however we were both surprised with the amount cursing in the movie. It seems like a very odd choice to have an entire Disneyworld land based on a PG-13 movie with excessive foul language when there are sure to be many kids that will be interested in seeing the movie that Pandora is based on.

im pretty sure they ll be no cursing in the land, except for the people waiting in line

plus I saw a video recently (also about dissuading people from buying "Dory" fish) in that those type of fish don't breed in captivity so they have to be caught in the wild
