News on new January 1st changes

Well, we are less than 48 hours from the start of the new year. Has anyone heard anything recently about changing things to differentiate resale from direct sales?

DW and I have been waiting to see how this will affect our decision to buy. We decided to wait until after the first of the year to see how this speculation turns out and what impact it may have to ownership and purchase (direct vs. resale).
It seems to have cooled off a bit and tiered membership rumor is now floating around. Has anything "official" been announced?

I actually spoke with someone in the "know" last night and I can assure you this whole resale/direct purchase thing is absolutely a rumor. Why the rumor and where did it originate? During this time of year, the resale market is very slow and needy brokers will create rumors every year to generate sales which are lacking. Their purpose is to scare people into buying resales now before the rules change. My suggestion is relax and enjoy your DVC memberships whether they are direct or resale purchases.

And FWIW, the rumors did NOT originate from the resale brokers, at least not the ones I am familiar with.

I spoke with member services today. The cast member told me to be sure and check the member web site on 1/3/11 for a surprise announcement. She said that she could not elaborate! She seemed excited about whatever will be announced. We'll see tomorrow what's in the works.

Seems to me 1/2 of the discussions are questions that are effectively and correctly answered. The other half are speculations that are not fact or data based at all. These are the discussions that garner the most attention and are the most entertaining. I enjoy both aspects of the boards.

Interesting. I do sincerely doubt that they will do anything regarding resales though, I will be sure to check the site tomorrow.

I also spoke to MS today and was told to check web site tomorrow for an annoucement. I didn't get the impression that it had anything to do with direct vs resales or a tier program. But he made it clear he couldn't elaborate.
He just said tomorrow no exact time.

Yes, it would really be nice to be able to check availability online. Most other hospitality services allow you to check on availability and make / change reservations. We'll find out tomorrow I guess.

I assure you The Timeshare Store, Inc.® did not start this rumor. We are hoping the rumors either 1) go away or 2) Disney does do something so we can all move forward. We are not in the business of scaring people. We have been doing this a long time and plan on doing this for years to come. Adjustments need to me made constantly and if something with DVC changes then we will make adjustments again. We want to let those owners know that if you need to sell now or in the future don't hesitate to give us a chance.
