It seems The DVC does listen to us!

I was told by 2 seperate MS-Advisors that effective today (via an email sent this morning!)

MS is a member's only service and guests may no longer call to add/remove the DVC Dining Plan, DME, or to confirm the existance of reservations!

These activities can only be done by the Owner!

Good news. Members making reservations for non-members should be responsible enough to take care of the entire reservation for the non-member.

From someone who always has to close her eyes and hope she's getting the last 4 digits of her SS number correct, I say Good! MS should be for members.

Bobbi :)

Someone has to explain why this is a good thing. If a member books a room for a non-member, they also have to do all the planning(Dining, tickets, ME etc...) sounds like a headache for the member. Or am I just missing something here. Wouldn't the member want less to do?

Looks like a good reason for members to start asking for more than $10/rental point. :thumbsup2

$12-16 would be a better going rate!!

Maybe this will lighten the load for the people who work at MS! I agree MS should be for members only. If someone chooses to rent out their points, they should have to do the calling for the renter. Alot more work for the minority of those out there who buy just to rent out points! But that's not me, DVC is strictly for my use and no one else, so it suits me fine. :thumbsup2

:cool1: :cool1:

This is great news and makes perfect sense - Member Services should be for Members only!!! DVC owners should take on the responsibility of DDP and DME for guest they rent to, or for family members they treat.

You know, I can't help but wonder if this has to do with what was referred to in a post last night (I'm sorry-I can't find the post now) where someone (was it Dean?) mentioned how many phone calls renters are probably making versus members. It makes me wonder if perhaps DVC does read and react to these boards. Can anyone find that post? I know he was saying how much work MS has, because of non-members' calls.

If a member wishes to take on the role of Travel agent and make a reservation for the non-member, they should perform all the duties required to make the reservation. Sounds like the end of $8-10 a point to me.

I will assume that this change will include ALL phone numbers for MS- both the 1-407 and 1-800 numbers.

If that is the case, perhaps we should revisit the current DIS policy prohibiting posting the 800 number on the boards.

As a new member I have to add that this does sound like a very good thing. Member Services should definitely be for "members". However, as a former renter of points (only needed to do this once before falling in love with dvc) I did call MS to make sure I hadn't given my money to a crook. (for lack of a better term) Couldn't they have some sort of number where renters could at least confirm they actually have a reservation? How will they find this information now?

A member crook could change the reservation the morning of check in if they really wanted to. They could cancel or change the dates. They might not even care if the points went into holding. They could change the name on the reservation to a person who paid them more for a last minute reservation if they really wanted to.

So far, on the DIS, there has only been one member crook noted - went bankrupt, failed to pay his dues/fees, points were confiscated and reservations were cancelled. He left the renter holding the bag and no reservation in their name. He didn't change it, he just let it get cancelled. Plus, he might have been unaware that the reservation would be cancelled when his points were taken. And thought the non-member would still have a reservation when they checked in.

The member making a reservation for a non-member can still give them a copy of the confirmation with their name on it.

My family always has me make all the arrangements for our family trips. I call Member Services and set everything up. If they ever want to start to be able to call Member Services themselves, I'll call DVC and set them up as Associate Members.

When I first read this I thought "Why?". But I agree with the policy as if I am making reservations for friends or family I would gladly do the footwork for them. If I am renting points and reaping the financial reward (small as it might be) I should also do the legwork. I get slightly annoyed with repeated threads (help me decide, where should I buy) and can imagine the pain to MS that renters could be. So I say good for MS, and maybe point transfers will become more popular which benefit members on both sides of the transaction instead of bottom feeding renters. (I'm also annoyed by people whose modern day version of hunting is finding all goods and services at rock bottom prices- I enjoy a bargain as much as the next person but I have a regular job also)

I've got to agree with bpmorley. It's just more work for the member.
But if you are getting paid for renting your points, then the extra time should be on your part rather than all the rest of us who do not rent but also help to pay for MS calls with dues. Seems to me it is an investment of time for what you are paid from your renter.

I'm GLAD it is "MEMBER services"!!!! The fact that DVC took this move leads me to believe that WAY too many calls were being handled for Non-members. Maybe now the service and attitudes of MS cast members will be better as well. :thumbsup2

Now it will be very important for a renter to feel totally comfortable with the DVC member since they will not be able to confirm the reservation especially since all paper confirmations and changes to the reservations will go to the DVC member.
