News and Developments for Future In-Person runDisney Events

I'm going for the charity route. Too much stress, and I'm theoretically not even available on the 24th of August!
Was already planning to do the same, but the anxiety of registration just makes the decision easier. I am a bit worried I don't see anything on it other than the link you posted yet. I've reached out to the charity I've run the races through in the past and will see if they have any info...

I agree. But until today it wasn't able to deliver on what it promised in seeking memberships. I could see them opening it up soon, in time to get crazies like us who are desperate to get a registration.
And once regular Club runDisney signups open up again in September, it could drive sales based on people planning for the next season's races. So pushing Club runDisney could still be their goal.

I’m sure someone has noted it (my reading comprehension hasn’t been the best this morning) but the springtime surprise having ToT and EE in the image seems to indicate people hoping for versions of those races to come back may be in luck.

Ahhh! I always wanted to do ToT and never got to...my birthday trip ends March 27. I may try to talk my husband into extending a few days (and if they add an after-party and reopen Port Orleans, that'd be a dream come true).

Resort reservation booked (Lagoon view at Poly) for Marathon Week!

Does anybody have tips for registration day, besides of course being ready to go at the time it opens? I will be registering two people for the 5k. What information do they typically ask for during registration?

That’s definitely not based on inside info and as someone else pointed out, it could be that the race is prospectively focusing on those parks and Epcot rather than MK.

Just thought the image and the idea they will be changing things from year to year opens the door for bringing back the format of some past events.

What information do they typically ask for during registration?

First, Middle, Last Name
Gender
DOB
email
phone number
address
estimated pace or POT (for a 5k it'll be a drop down of estimated paces)
shirt size
emergency contact

*They also have a few questions about military, first runDisney race, wheelchair.

I believe most everything is editable after your registration is confirmed. So you're better off moving and grooving through the registration and fixing errors later.

In non-runDisney races (where people don’t start and stop for characters so much), self-seeding based on pace actually helps the flow of running - without weaving around people so much. But Disney is a different anima
Self-seeding in our local races is a hot mess, so I can only imagine how it will be at a Disney race.

This. I remember 2014 Marine Corps 10k--my 10k PR even though I had to run 6.6 miles to dodge and weave around the clueless, 4 abreast walkers who decided to self-seed in the sub 8 min/mile section. People will do whatever they want to get up front--they just don't care.

Did anyone else notice the sunrise yoga during Princess Weekend? I'm not a yoga person at all but I'm very interested in that. Particularly if it is in one of the parks.

I expect something more like "yoga on the pavement at EPCOT before the 1 mile walk to the start" ;)

As for me, I have no clue what to do. I might be able to do a sub-2:00 half if the stars aligned in the fall time frame, but I just can't seem to get my head into that. But I do have a hotel booked--for quite some time--at Pop for MW, so yeah.

I am interested to see how corrals work if there is really no POT. I was usually in the B or C corral for the half marathons with a POT of just under 2 hrs. Between having no races because of covid and actually having cancer, I have not been able to get back to my pre-cancer running level. There is just so much change happening to RD that I think it is hard to process all of this. I hope they do charities because DH and I would really like to run for the American Cancer Society (I am a 2x cancer thriver at the age of 43!). Fingers crossed they have that.

I mean, they're convincing people to pay close to $800 annually for a jacket, a card, and the privilege of being the first to pay for races. That's just funny money to them.

Do you think they will they announce what the springtime surprise events are before registration for Princess weekend? I'm considering doing one of those weekends but want to know what Springtime will have before I decide.

Probably a lot like the 5k/10k corrals. There will be a small subset with POT (around 8-10% based on historical data), and then the remaining will submit estimates. From there, there will be some undetermined number of break-ups. For the 5k/10k, they don't use the drop-downs as delineations anymore (as in there are more drop down choices then there are corrals). My guess is because the faster drop down choices were being overloaded as people got wise to the system. So they moved from 5-6 corrals for 5k/10k to 3 corrals. But for the HM/M in the past, the number of drop down estimates was equal to the number of non-POT corrals. So my guess is you'll see something similar to the 5k/10ks and runDisney will follow the data on corral assignment for non-POT submissions. So every drop down choice for HM/M may not be equal to its own corral. From there, it'll be mini-waves morning of to break up the non-POT corrals into smaller bits.

This is all a guess though. I was right about the extension of the POT window, but I was way off on the new POT corral cutoffs (I thought they would go to 3 hrs, but never thought they'd actually go even faster from 2:45 then to 2:30, and now to 2:00). I vaguely remember there used to be a time when the cutoff was 3-3:15 hrs or something.

TA here - I just spoke to someone and was told that we CAN still add on bibs. She said that they had RunDisney training yesterday and that it should work like normal. I will call back throughout the day to see if I get the same answer.
Yay! Wonderful news!!!!

On the question of information needed, I took a look at my Half Marathon Registration from January 2020 and see the following fields.

As @DopeyBadger mentioned, you can blow through several of these fields without entering your data initially or just put in a value and change it at a later time.

Since things have changed this year, the questions may be different.

I have been trying to find the window for POT, but I can't find it. I think I will plan a fall 10k and see how that goes. I am seriously considering sitting this year out and let all this flush out, but I would have major FOMO!

As for the question of POT cut-offs.

I understand it is giving a lot of people stress right now, but I personally would not worry about it. I did not submit a PoT for my last race and still finished way before the balloon ladies. Sure there was a lot of weaving in and out of people at the start of the race, but it opened up after the first mile or two.

Since the character experiences have be flagged as changing, the amount of time you spend in lines may be different and may not even exist.
