News about Treehouse Villas !! ??

I will keep watching this thread, that would be great if it happens! It will take a few more years and probably a minor miracle to get my family back to the world. Thanks for posting this!

Question: IF these units were simply added to SSR inventory, would any of THEM actually need to be ADA compliant? Or could they simply convert a number of "other" SSR rooms into ADA compliant rooms to satisfy the requirement.

If the treehouses functionally become a PART of SSR, would in essence just become another section like Congress Park or Carousel, I'm unsure if they'd need to convert ANY of the ACTUAL treehouses to be ADA compliant and still satisfy the letter of the law. Would they?

SSR does have accessible villas in different parts of the resort, so they are not all segregated in one area.
There is a part in the ADA that says the accessible accomodations should be distributed among the different areas (including things like different views, etc), so I think they would make some ADA compliant Treehouses.
It would not be that hard and it would only be 4.

And, I agree with CanadianGuy that there might be a lot of bumps in the road to making the Treehouses part of SSR.

Now.. I could see them offering the Treehouse Villas DVC as a separate thing. That might be huge. But I can't see them just including the whole property over to SSR owners at no extra cost...

Actually, the THV's are already part of SSR. Acdording to the POS and property rights SSR members already pay for this land, etc. I presume that while they were being used by Disney for the interns, SSR was compensated for the use. I am not 100% sold that will be SSR units....but I don't think they would be a stand alone DVC for the following reasons: There is a lack of alternative units...owners wouldn't be able to get a bigger or small unit at their home resort. It would require a lot more legal and financial cost to seperate it from SSR (they had to of had a plan when they included them into SSR). If they are not part of SSR, I believe they will be stand alone cash only units.....again offsetting costs with SSR as they do at other multi-use facilities (BWV, BCV, etc).

I stayed in a TH in the late 70's as a teen. My mom and a friend took me and two friends. I have some very groovy pictures of the interior, gold and green and far out!
I would love to stay there again!

I was comparing Fairway Villas to the THV....it should have been the Vacation Villas. Wow, can't believe I got the villas mixed up. I didn't realize rack rate was that high at the Poly back then. I was getting "codes" and didn't realize it. Thanks for the blast to the past! Current prices for the Poly average from $340-$710.

The cabins are roughly double now what they were then. So.. using that as a yardstick.. The Treehouses could go for as much as $600 to $640 a night... (I know it's not that simple..)

Wow.. given that info - I happen to agree. Stand alone cash units is probably what it will be.

Growing up, my family stayed in the Treehouses a few times. They were really fun to be in for my brothers and I. I never realized the water way was beside them at the time, until last year when we took the boat from POR to DTD. Wow! I am glad that there is talk about bringing them back. What a great place to stay for larger families.

Wow! It looks like these are 3 bedrooms, 2 baths?? Lots of room.

When we stayed in them in 98 they were. We had 3 bedrooms, kitchen, 2 baths. Our whole extended family stayed and it was wonderful!! We were so sad to hear they weren't available 4 years later when we returned to WDW. They were on par with a deluxe in terms of pricing, I think. We booked through AAA and got a package deal I think.

I would gladly stay in them again! Glad to hear they'll be coming back.

I agree, that's a possibility. I don't think there is any way there won't be laundry facilities in the new THV.

The laundry facility was awesome! When we stayed, DD was 15 months old- and let me tell you that full size washer and dryer came in handy. It even broke down the first day we were there, and Disney sent a maintanence man within 20 minutes, and he fixed it.

The privacy was another huge plus of staying in the Treehouses for a large family! Can't wait for them to reopen again.

I always wanted to stay in the Treehouses, but couldn't afford it when we were younger. On our most recent trip we sailed by them on the POFQ boat, and it stirred up my old memories. I would stay there in a heartbeat if they return (and I was traveling with a group!)

1997 : We stayed in the villas at the Disney Institute. Don't remember the exact term but it was a two bedroom, two and a half bath, two story condo. It was fabulous! The rate was $300 a night in May. (We had 50% off with TDS discount.)

1998 : I wanted to stay in the treehouses, but I was vetoed. I believe the rate was around $300 a night in June. We ended up staying in a Studio at BWV for $300 a night. (50% off again!) I was soooo disappointed that the previous year we had spacious accomodations and for the same price we had a bed and fold out sleeper sofa.

My sister got us a "travel agent" rate a looong time ago. In other words, Disney needed travel agents to help spread the word.

We thought we had found one of the best kept secrets *ever* in the Treehouses. Hmmm.. Can we delete this thread?

How do you get to the parks from there? Is it a long trip? By water or by bus? These look really cool...can't believe I've never heard of them before today...I'm so out of the loop and here I thought I was in the inner circle of the loop!

They are between OKW and SSR.
There is not a dock, but it would be possible to walk to SSR and use that dock to take a boat to DD.
It would be bus transportation to all the parks and would be the same distance as going from either OKW or SSR. In the 'old days' when it was open and OKW had just opened, some of the non-peak hour OKW buses made a swing into the Treehouse area for bus service.

We stayed in the treehouses when I was about 13 or 14 - so around 1985-87. I don't remember the inside but I remember them being very private. In fact, my friend and I had a scary adventure out in the "deep, dark woods" of the treehouses!

My parents had let us go to the MK alone for the day (we thought we were SO cool! ) By the time we came back it was dark out. Well, we didn't know which bus stop was ours so we got off at the entrance to the treehouses! Everything looked the same in the dark. We walked and walked trying to find the right treehouse, it was so scary! We were walking right in the middle of the street holding hands and every little noise made us jump.

We finally ended up backtracking and going over to I-Drive and walking into some Mariott or Hilton or something. We went tot he desk and told them what happened and they called my parents. We had to sit there and wait in our park clothes while all these kids came in all dressed up for a prom!

When my poor, petrified dad finally got there we figured out what happened. We were wandering around looking for our rental car so we'd know which tree house was ours, but he was so worried about us that he was out driving around looking for us - somehow we missed each other. Now that I have kids I know how terrible that must have been for my parents!
