I notice from the disney website Newport bay and sequoia are both classed as moderates, but newport is more expensive. Is there much difference in the ammenities? is it worth the extra? ive stayed at sequoia before but never newport. is it a much further walk to the park than sequoia?

I've stayed Admiral's Floor at the NPB once last year and I've stayed Sequoia Lodge twice this year, once in the main building an once in a lodge.
In my opinion there is no comparison, I don't like the look of the Sequoia from the outside and I'm not overly fussed on the inside either, the colours are so dismal.
The NPB is light and airy and I love the design, it's classy inside.
I'd say the walk is about the same, maybe a little shorter to the NPB, standard room amenities will be the same, but if you're booking NPB I'd recommend spending the extra for the Admirals floor and being able to take breakfast in your room if required, the NPB is a very large hotel and by all accounts breakfast times can be chaotic although from what I've seen I think the same can be said at all the hotels if you choose to take breakfast within the popular 8.00 - 9.00 time frame. At the NPB we had Consierge service, free tea/coffee hamper, a room safe, mini bar, bath robes, hairdryer, chocolates in the room, VIP breakfast, (although this has now ended for Ad. Floor), flowers in the bathroom - at SL both times I've been lucky to get a bar of soap
The NPB was a special treat it was my 40th our 16th wedding anniversary and my DS's birthday and it was a superb holiday.

But to be honest the hotel doesn't really bother me, we shower, sleep and take breakfast there. Our usual routine is to leave the room at 7.30 and return around 10.00, so as long as I have a bath and a clean comfy bed I'm happy, the little extras were nice but not essential.:)

Nearly every time we got to DLRP, we stay at the Sequoia lodge but once, we decided to go to the Newport Bay because some people I know where saying that for the price they were not that happy so we decided to test it out, and actually it is the stay that gave me the less satisfaction at DLRP, we were two and asked for a double bed as we always do, we got a small room pointing on the parking. Now, I dont know how many people you are.
As for the walk, well I dont really remember but it is not really that shorter than the sequoia lodge (of course it depends where you are in the sequoia lodge in cabins or in the main building)

If I had to choose between both, I for sure would go to the sequoia lodge for the ambiance, now you will maybe get other points of views.

I don't think there is a lot of difference in service between both hotels (expect if you're at Admirals Floor). It all depends on what atmosphere you like more. I prefer Newport Bay in summer and Sequoia in winter. If you like to swim, I think the swimming pool at Sequoia is nicer. Newport Bay is a bit more "chique", Sequoia is more cosy. I prefer the restaurants of Newport Bay (Yacht Club is great), but the bar at Sequoia is better. So: they're both good, it just depends on what you're looking for. If you've already been at Sequoia two times, I would try Newport Bay Club.

I have stayed in both hotels and they are both worth the money... Very beautiful both of them. However SL is closer to the parks, which is something I think of...

I am going in a week to SL. I chose it because of seeing how many others here have stayed.
I have never been to DLP, it is our first visit, we are from U.S.
How much closer is SL? We are staying in the hotel itself, Montana room. Is there a certain route to take to get to park that is quicker or is it just closer anyway?

SL is placed at the lake, so you just walk around the lake and through Village. It takes under 10 min to get to the parks and it's very easy!!!

Exit the back of the hotel (so down a level from the reception) and follow the lake round to Disney Village.
SL was nice in October, but GORGEOUS at Christmas, so warm and cosy. The Montana rooms are a little more, but worth it to be in the main buidling. They have mini bar and hairdryer. We've never stayed at NPB so can't do a comprison, but we love SL.

The walk past the lake to the NPB entrance definately seems shorter than the walk to the SL entrance if you're staying in the main hotel building, however when we were in Yellowstone Lodge at SL I would say it was a slightly shorter walk, but there is very little in it either way.

Although I've stayed in both, I wouldn't do so again. They're both decent hotels but too big and I don't enjoy the theme of either.

I'd much rather save money and stay in the Cheyenne or spend a bit more to stay in the Disneyland Hotel.

we've stayed in both and we prefer SL... the atmosphere is warmer, the decor is nicer (for us anyway) and I think it's more or less the same distance to the park (approximately 10-15mins walk)
