OMG, I was looking at the old threads I posted on and found this one. My little surprise turned 2 in May - in a way, this will be her (yep, she's a girl) 2nd trip to Disney. And I never did have one episode of morning sickness. I also posted a reply to this when we got back - no wonder she's such a bouncy little girl :flower: .

Original Post:

We just found out that I'm pregnant (quite an unexpected surprise). I'll only be about 8 weeks along when we're at Disney.....any advice? Do I have to skip all the motion rides? I'm hoping to skip the morning sickness (same as I have the last 2 pregnancies). So far so good.

This was totally unexpected. We just sold our house and are moving to a bigger house so that is good. And I've had this trip booked since February; this will be the first trip for my ds (4 1/2) and the 5th trip for my dd (almost 14). I guess this will be the baby's first trip (LOL) too, since I know we will not be able to go back for quite some time.

Thanks in advance for any advice - P.S.: we are not telling the kids or anyone else yet about this pregnancy. But I've gotten pretty excited the last couple days.

Well, I don't know the answer about the rides, I'd just suggest looking for the "Not suggest for" signs and go with that.

I just wanted to say CONGRATS on the pregnancy!

I'm about 14 weeks along myself!

I've been to the world while about 4 months along....you should be fine on just about everything, and you've been before so you have experience with which rides are jerky. Maybe just stay away from those. Check with your doc, at 8 weeks maybe you can still enjoy a trip on space mountain! If you normally enjoy the big rides though, your 13 yo might be onto you if mom suddenly decides shes not riding (lol)....

Maybe scheduing plenty of down time in could be helpful, as I'm sure you know, those first few weeks are exhausting. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you on the morning sickness, which unfortunately was new to me with this 3rd pregnancy (also a surprise)....

My recommendation would be to be prepared for morning sickness just in case. It's always possible that you will get it, especially if you're pushing yourself, but it may very well be mild enough that you can work with it pretty easily. Get familiar with the menus and where restaurants are located in each park so that if you do start to feel hungry, you can get something to eat right away. If you keep yourself from being hungry, thirsty, or overly tired, you should be able to deal with a lot of it. (I'm 18 weeks along and had a horrible first trimester. :))

I'd also be proactive about smells if they tend to bother you. You're not going to WDW without coming across something stinky. I'd recommend carrying lemon wedges so that you can smell a lemon quickly if you need to. It's generally strong enough to cover up any other smell, and it's a nice, pleasing scent.

Congratulations and good luck!

I was 7 weeks pg. in WDW last December and I avoided all the "mountains," TOT and RNR plus the safari. I also had very minor morning sickness, but I still spent a couple of days in the hotel room. Other than that, the trip was great! It was my baby's "first" trip, but we're planning on taking him for his real first trip in August for his 1st birthday.

Just drink lots of water and take it slow - don't go commando style.

Oh and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

We found out my DW was pregnant on our trip from the UK in 2000.We had already been there a week before finding this out so she had been on quite a few coasters etc. Most rides like this do advise you not to go on, but from our experience it did no harm to our DS who is now 20 months and going back to WDW in November for what I suppose could be classed as his second trip.

Have a great time whatever you decide to do !!

Regards

Sean.:p

I went to Disneyland and Knott's when I was 3 months pregnant with twins (didn't know it was twins at the time.) I did everything even the coasters. I figured if miscarrying was so easy there wouldn't be a demand for abortions. Teens who found themselves in an unplanned pregnancy would just head for the theme parks. (said in my best tongue in cheek voice)

If you have a high risk preganancy, I would suggest staying home so you will be closer to your OB/GYN. But this comes from a person who rode horses when she was 9 months pregnant with her twins. (They were both 7 lb. babies.)

Thanks for all the great advice and kind words. And congrats to those of you who are pregnant with me. So far, so good with the morning sickness. I'm just really exhausted. I work outside the house full time and have found I'd like to take a nap at my desk....but since no one knows, I try to get up and walk around or change my activity.
I'll let you know how the trip was - I will probably do several of the bigger rides unless I'm feeling sick. I figured it will help since we're on the Monorail (afternoon rest) and I'm hoping the snacks from the Concierge will help keep the morning sickness away.

Thanks again!
Kim

Congrats kim like Bev I was horseback riding until six months along and not on my old lady horse either. I was also ground breaking (bridle, saddle) another one and had a trainer come ride her.

Bev how do you ever manage to get on and off?? I had all I could do to land my but in the saddle a 6 months I finally gave up. Course the ob breathed a sy of relief she was ready to have DH farm out the horsed cause I was losing weight (how I don't know I was a big as a house and he was 7 lb 8oz. Oh well what we horse people do will never be understood.

"Doctor I think I need my head examined I just bought another horse"

The horse I was riding was an Arab mare only 14 hands high. She had a really smooth gait which is common for Arabs. I've been riding all my life and green-breaking horses for years. I didn't have trouble getting on but getting off was harder. I never even tried to get on my Missouri Fox-Trot horse who was 16 hands. My OB/GYN thought it was fine since I've been riding all my life. He didn't recommend starting any activities that you weren't good at. If you jogged or skiied already, then you could keep it up. I even went water skiing several times until I was about 5 months along. But I could never have jogged. I wouldn't have been able to run if my life depended on it.

Horseback riding was easier for me than walking, go figure.

Hi- Pregnant myself & heading for WDW - my best advice is to check with your doctor. Every person is different and every pregnancy is different. My first pregnancy was very difficult while this one is a breeze. I would err on the side of caution though- you wouldn't want something to happen when you could have prevented it. Prepare for the m/s - rest often - drink tons of water. Good luck!!

Kim, I could have written your post! We too just found out I am preggers... and heading to WDW in 6 days!

I have my first OB appt tomorrow, and I plan on asking her thoughts on riding the Mountians.

The funny thing is....... DH and I were planning a trip to WDW back in September of 98, when we discovered I was preggo with our first DD...... so we cancled the trip. Now 4 years and TWO kids later, we decided to plan our adults only trip once again. POOF Preggo!!!!!!!! DH says no more planning WDW without the girls ever again! ROFL

Morning sickness really has kicked my butt.... it is more like 24 hour sickness. :( That is my main concern...... I am planning to swipe a couple of Airsickness bags from the flight down, to carry around the World..... LOL

I sure hope the Doc says I can ride some coasters.... Since our kids are so little (well under 40 inches lol) DH has never been on Splash Mountian or BTMR. AND we plan on spending one night at US/IOA....... SOmething tells me the Hulk will be too intense....

::::::::sigh::::::::::::: Good thing at the end of all this throwing up and such we will have a wonderful new baby to hold and love!

I also was one of the ones that planned a trip then ended up getting pregnant. I was about 14 weeks or so when I went. I rode everything except for the following:
RnR
ToT
Star Tours
Space Mountain
Body Wars
Dinosaur
and the rapids ride (I can't think of the name right now but I don't normally ride that anyway)

I rode Splash Mountain FIVE times and BTMountain THREE times. We had a four-year-old that was tall enough to ride those rides for the first time and I wasn't going to miss out riding them with her.

All those rides didn't have any affect on DS though. He was born perfectly normal. DH was a little worried I think though because, as he put it, he didn't want his son's brains to get scrambled :)

Also, I would be sure to have VERY comfy shoes, lots of water, and some crackers to take with you. You never know when that "morning" sickness can hit you. You might want to get some Sea Bands just in case. They are for motion sickness but they are good for morning sickness too...especially if you suffer from morning sickness AND motion sickness on some of those rides :)

Gee, my sister's been "trying" for years - maybe she should just plan a trip to DW.

Congrats all and best wishes for easy and healthy pregnacies.

Congrats,

I've been to WDW pregnant twice. Both trips were very early in the pregnancies. I would encourage you to ride everything but Space Mountain. The safety restraint hits you right in the belly. Ride everything else lots. When you go back with small kids, you won't get to ride things liike you used to. But its fun in a different way then.

Have fun

Sorry, I have no advice.

I wanted to say congratulations to Kimkimba and the rest of the expectant mothers!

I was seven weeks pregnant when I went to WDW in July (actually confirmed the pregnancy the first day there). I rode everything except the coasters, Body Wars and Star Tours (mainly cause we didn't make it to these).

I'd say go with your gut feeling. If you feel comfortable doing something, go for it.

Congratulations!!!

Now if I could only decide about whether to keep or cancel my early December (start of my 7th month) Christmas trip that I have been planning for my 6yo sister, mom and grandma for nearly 2 years (ours too was a surprise!).

Just wanted to say I'm back and it was really was a great trip. I'm happy to say I still have no signs of morning sickness and did not feel slightly sick for even one second in Disney. I guess I'm just lucky. The biggest rides I did (with no lines!) - Splash Mountain, Space Mountain (2x - once on each side), Test Track, and Aerosmith Rock-n-Roller Coaster (2x). No problems - if I were more pregnant though I wouldn't have done any of the coasters. Good luck to all the future mommies:~!

It's hard to believe that I was newly pregnant last time I visited the Mouse. Now I'm taking that 2 year old for her first "official" visit with Mickey.
