Newest "Moms to Be" Thread

I'm working on my massive registry and I have to say to check out Walmart.com I HATE Walmart, but they have some of the EXACT same stuff as Target and even BRU for a bit cheaper, but the big deal is many of the items are free shipping if you ship to your local Walmart. That is huge when shipping can be like $30.

And the Walmart site is great for reviews too. They seem to have way more for the exact same things as the other 2 sites...

I would get it from Walmart too then, especially with their ship to store option.

Maggie-you got in trouble for posting a freebie! What has happened over there?

The quality of the gliders at Target (and I am assuming Walmart if they are the same) are just fine. They aren't the best out there but you would have to pay a lot more for those!

My Aunt in SC Site-To-Stored stuff off my registry and Wal-Mart actually mailed it to my HOUSE for free. I was shocked, it had site-to-store stickers all over it but there it was on my porch! :thumbsup2

It's ultimately why I did WalMart and not TRU, that they are cheaper on so many things. That and they're the only one around here that would have everything that I still need in STORE.. our TRU not so much and we don't have a Target. :sad1:

I'm starting to wish I had done Walmart instead of Target...but ugh, I hate Walmart.

Sorry. It was my only choice, but I've found them to be super easy to work with.

I don't need much though. My total registry is 46 items and it's bottles, bottle liners, washclothes, hooded towels, etc... stuff like that. So it didn't take me long to do in the store (maybe a half hour?) and I added a few things online like my Pack-N-Play and activity mat.

It was a nice break to poke around walmart.com and add things and change things around while I was working on my homework, though, so I didn't mind the extra time ;)

The crib is DaVinci Kalani in Honey Oak. I used my company discount and got it off Cribs.com... one definite benefit working for a monster bank like I do, we have discounts to practically EVERYWHERE! :thumbsup2
We don't have a Target but a lot of people got us WalMart gift cards for our wedding reception (which was 5 months delayed so everyone knew about the baby by then) and we've held on to those for things like diapers and formula after I stop working.
We've been lucky, my monthly (and yearly) bonus checks paid for all the big stuff- car seat, crib, glider, changing table, etc.. EXCEPT this stupid new law they are trying to pass? That would back tax all my bonuses in 2008 at 90%! :headache:
I'm starting to freak out a bit, but we all got e-mails from our government relations advisor for the company telling us that is how it would work and we needed to contact our Senators. Ugh. :sad2: :scared1:

Thank you-- and yes! Those are the very same curtains. I took a lot of chances with stuff over the internet but it all worked out pretty wonderfully! I like that it's not too themed out and he can easily grow into it! :thumbsup2

:scared1:I knew that stupid law would bite the "normal" people in the behinds! I won't say anymore since it is politics, but I hope it is resolved soon, and they won't ask for 90% of your bonus!

Maybe I'll just go ahead and do it for all of the big ticket stuff that I don't think anyone is going to buy me anyway? I wouldn't want to put it on my other registries for more $$$. It would just be stupid.

Why is this so difficult!? :scared:

Ahhhh!! I just started a registry at Walmart.com...I give up.

I now have 4 registries...lol one isn't really one though. I didn't add anything to it...I feel like I should just get rid of the Target one...I Loooove Walmart's ship to the store thing...

Yep, pretty much. Monthly and yearly incentives are built into my contract-- we work for what we earn (through product referrals, setting appointments, getting customers to financial advisors, etc.) I don't get a bonus just because, our entire branch (all 6 of us:rotfl:) had to hit certain levels before we got ANY money. Monthly bonuses are individual performances. Quarterly bonuses are earned as a branch (we never, EVER get these) and yearly bonuses based on the branch as a whole with different guidelines than quarterly.

It's not like I'm Jamie Dimon and just bought a jet and everything.
So if this law passes I'm going to have to request my maternity leave in a lump sum payment and pay it back. :headache:

I bet people will, especially people at work! You're having a work shower, aren't you? DH's office is buying our Pack-N-Play. They told him they wanted something big because it was easier to just collect money and have a big gift instead of everything individually buying something and possibly forgetting, etc. :thumbsup2

It's a great perk, you gotta give it to them!

Patsy, loved the pic of the bedroom!! I don't have pics of Ellas (baby to be) room up yet, but it's Classic Pooh and I love it!! Here are a couple pictures of my DS's room, I love his room too :) His aunt painted his dresser, we painted the walls and I decorated :goodvibes

His true 'cute' crib bedding was in the wash, and we lost the mobile off the crib shortly after he continued to pull it in there with him....lol

I hate wal-mart too, so luckily my co-workers knew that and got me Target giftcards instead :) lol

Quick 'mom to be' question....

All day long I've been exhausted (with plenty of sleep AND napped today) but, my hips are in sooo much pain!! Like, I can't get comfortable, feels like they are being pushed apart. I'm not having contractions, but I can feel the tightening of my stomache when she tries to move (which movement has slowed... ALOT in the last couple days)...

I dont' remember the hip pain...anyone else experience this?

I'm several weeks behind you, but my hips started hurting last Thu, and haven't let up yet. I had a hard time getting around the school campus today.

So is that maybe the pain I had all day today, too? Hmm.

It was all around my side, but mine kept coming and going. I thought I might be in preterm labor but I timed it and all that and it wasn't consistant and they seemed to get further and further apart. It was bizarre and as soon as it hit, they went away!

Well DH is a bigger Walmart hater than me apparently...lol

He doesn't want to "put our baby in anything purchased from Walmart." He's such a tool. It's exactly the same crap from Target and even BRU. Ack! men.

So I'm going to put our crib on the BRU list--just the cheap Jenny Lind one and we'll find a dresser/changer ourselves, since we have PLENTY of other big ticket things people can get. Now I have to pick a new stroller.

Did any of you register for a baby carrier? We picked a $100 Bjorn that we'd probably never buy ourselves and I'm wondering how much real use it would ever get. I hate that I feel like I'm registering for things that I wouldn't buy myself. The Pack N Play is a bone of contention between me and my mom. I just doubt we's really use it. It would take up the entire floor space in our living room. It would be easier to put the baby on the floor or in a bouncer or something...

Sarah...i bought a baby carrier at wal-mart (sorry!;) we don't have much other choice around where i live) it was about a $40 one...I could not figure it out and by then DS was too heavy that I never used it. I am actually having it taken back. I just felt is was easier not to use!

I loved the Bjorn but only used it until my son was about 6 months or so. I did buy a sling though. I really liked it there are so many different ways you can hold the baby. I didn't use it when he was an infant so that will be new for me this time but once he was a little olfer I would carry him on my hip. It was the sling with the adjustable rings. Not sure of the name right now but I liked that I could adjust it once he was in it.

Heh on the Wal-mart hating. We stayed out of ours as long as we could, as we don't care for their business or employment practices..... but with the economy in the toilet..... well they are cheaper, so we have caved.

The PnP may be more useful than you realize..... once the baby is mobile, if you haven't baby-proofed perfectly (and you probably won't, at least not at first) it is handy to have a "safe" place to put the kid, when you have to pee, bring the groceries in from the car, etc. any time you can't have eyes on the baby. It can also double as a portable place to sleep, if you intend to do any traveling or have the baby spend the night with grandma at any point.

On the baby bjorn... I only used ours a handful of times with my son, and passed it on to another mom in my local MOMS Club. I actually just got another (used) one from another friend in the MOMS Club. Don't know that I'll use it any more this time around with two. So maybe see if you can find one secondhand? This time I may look into a sling, like a maya wrap or a ring sling.

Patsy, did you get your Pooh wall art from Target? I just ordered a set off of Target.com and it looks very similar to that. If they're the same then I am a happy camper because those are super cute :) And the rest of the room looks great too! I can't wait to start decorating more. I'm getting antsy because I haven't done anything yet in terms of decorating or getting ready for the baby. My mom and I are going to set up my registries the day I find out the sex though so I have something else to look forward to ;)

I THINK so. :confused3
My brother brought them up to me (we don't have a Target here) but he lives in Orlando so there is a slight possibility that they came from Disney, but I doubt it. He's too lazy to drive out to Disney to get me something, but frequents Target and might have been tempted to take a stroll through the baby aisle! :rotfl:
The baskets in my changing table and the one on the shelf are the Classic Pooh lined ones from Target, though. I got those in December when I was in Columbus. I love them, they're very cute!

Well, don't get too antsy because of me.. that is the only room in the entire house that is done! It got done first mostly because most of the stuff in the other rooms we're still using here and there. :headache: And all of that stuff was already at that house..
Next room.. guest bedroom! :thumbsup2

That will be fun!! It's coming up soon, right?? I forget when in April you told us!

That's exactly what I'm afraid will happen.

I'll definitely look at the slings...

Thanks for all the info ladies!! What would I do without you?!
