Hi all! I am so new to this stuff it's not even funny :)
We are going to WDW not only for the first time but will be there on saturday following Thanksgiving, we are soooo excited!
Couple of questions.....
1) how do i get a countdown? 2) how do we get info on DVC? 3) we're staying at DD (because of price), at any thoughts on staying in that area?
I'm SURE i'll have more questions as i learn more. I apologize in advance if i'm not in the right place for the questions.
Also, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for ANY help!
Have a fantastic day!!

Just want to make sure you realize that Disney Vacation Club (DVC) is essentially a timeshare program. Cost to buy into the program starts around $14,000, with dues payable annually for about 50 years.

You mentioned staying off-site due to cost, so I just want to make sure you understand that DVC is not some sort of discount club.

If you're still interested, in addition to the suggestions that Laurabearz provided, there are also dozens of DVC information kiosks scattered throughout Disney property. Cast Members at these locations can provide basic information for you, arrange for you to tour the model rooms, and put you in touch with an actual Guide (salesperson.)

DVC works best for those who want to vacation at least once a year at WDW in deluxe acommodations and be able to save money with food etc. by having the full kitchen and in room laundry at their disposal. As mentioned earlier, it is a timeshare, but a timeshare quite different from most. We found it to be a good deal for us, since we were going to WDW every other year and staying on-site each time at costs in the $4-5,000 range. It didn't take rocket science to discover that in just a few trips, we would have had our trips "paid in advance". When we decided to take the DVC plunge, we took the money we would have spent on that one trip and applied it to DVC. Then we decided to pay for it right away so we wouldn't have any interest payments. That meant that we could stay at deluxe WDW accommodations with a full kitchen and laundry every year for the cost of our maintenance fees plus a portion of the original investment.

It seems to me you should take a trip to WDW first before you know for sure that this is the place your family wants to have a pre-paid vacation to. There are also exchanges, but may not be the best "bang for the buck". Read the frequently asked questions thread at the top of this forum and order the video from DVC to get you started.
