We're on the Jun 17th cruise. Thanks for your offer to help!
We were planning to take the Metro into town and either do the HOHO tour or just wander around. Do you know where the closest place to catch the metro from the cruise terminal?
Also, what do you recommend we see? We're a family of 4 Myself, DH, DD 20 and DD 18.
Hi and welcome to Newcastle! As much as I love the metro, you would best of catching a taxi from the terminal into Newcastle. It will be faster and only slightly more expensive then the metro.
Here's a map, it's a 15 min walk to the metro (and the port itself isnt in a great area)

I would get a taxi to central station in Newcastle the hoho bus picks up opposite, it covers the main sights and I've always wanted to go on it myself!
Here is a good link with a walking map
http://www.newcastlegateshead.com/plan-your-visit/download/newcastlegateshead-pocket-guide Newcastle is compact enough to walk around, and the people are VERY friendly but it is quite hilly as you get down to the quayside.
The BALTIC modern art museum on the quayside is worth a visit if your down there, it's free to visit and you can get great views from the viewing gallery on the top floor.
If you want to go shopping head to around Greys monument. Fenwicks is a fantastic department store with a really nice food hall (with a few different cafes/bakeries/restaurants for lunch). Great for a wander around.
If you want to book an English restaurant I would recommend Blackfriars in the city centre (in the oldest building in Newcastle) or broadchare on the quayside. You can book both online before you go.
If you head back to central station you will get a taxi really easily.
I hope you have a fantastic time! Newcastle has a great history and I might be slightly biased but also really friendly people
