newborn at disney?

Thanks for all the advice, im just so torn. i want to go sooo bad!!! LOL i actually predicted this back in sept when everything was booked and finalized. i said i will either be hugely pregnant or have a newborn and BOOM guess what? LOL

i luckly have very easy deliveries. we joke that my babies just "fall out" when i was overdue with my DD and i walked in to that 41st wk apt their jaw dropped and said go to the hospital NOW, i was delivering across town and they were afraid that if i went into labor during rush hour i would never make it. i delivered 4 hours after they started the pitocin and broke my water! so i am usually fine (knock on wood) and also with my dd i had family visiting and we were at the mall 3 days after she born, hershey park 3 weeks after that. but it was may.

i understand all of the cons, but my family can be soooo difficult to deal with and i never get a congrats when i announce my pg's. there always seems to be a reason why they think i shouldnt have one at the time. now this will be "you already have a ds and a dd...what do you want another for" and "what are we supposed to do about disney, werent you thinking?" sigh, even dh asked about disney when i told him, and he didnt even want to go on the trip.

well thanks for all the advice. i guess i have a few more months to make a total decision. maybe i should invest in some travel insurance for this trip!

Just something to think about, my kids always get sick from either Disney or the plane. Take your pick. We have had trips that requires multiple trips to Centra Care. I would not want my newborn to ever be exposed to something like that. Even if the baby slept with you etc. as mine do, the beds are slept on by a bazillion people and they are not disinfected so who knows if someone had the yuckies before you got there? There are alot of people around and who knows if they are sick or not. Also- I had easy deliveries every single time. Last labor was only about and hour and a half. I usually get right up after delivery, clean myself up, etc. and I have to tell you that the next day and for weeks after I was in alot of pain. That was for my 3rd baby so I never would have predicted that having been able to bounce back alot quicker the 2 times before.

I think the travel insurance is a great idea!! You might check into some "what-if" scenarios for the insurance, just in case. If you have a 2 week old/recovering from childbirth at the time of the trip, will the insurance kick in? What other possibilities could exist and would the insurance cover it?

I would hate to cancel too, so I understand that. I took ds2 when he was 8 weeks old and with nursing he was the easiest one of the bunch to take care of!

First: CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Second: I took a six week old (Grand Gathering and surprise pregnancy also)and I would say go with some provisions
a) Ask your doctor his/her opinion - then listen! ;)
b) get trip insurance. Also, you many want to line up an nanny who can stay with you if reasons come up that you cannot go. I would not want to wreck the trip of so many others.
c) if you do get clearance to go from your doctor:
i - rent a cradle from baby's best friend (abbf.com)
ii - realize that you will spend much time recovering and relaxing by the pool while your DH takes your other kids to the park
iii - find the location of all the breast feeding rooms in advance, take lots of thin white blankets to delflect heat and make sure both of you stay well hydrated and well rested. Plus don't forget hats and light long sleeved sleepers like I did the first day. $70 later after the emergency gift shop stop. Be organzied! Bag: water, snacks, diapers, cream, wipes, vasaline, cream for you, light white blanket, hat, several cool outfits, baby bjorn, sunscreen for you, etc.
iv - you will be in the hotel room a lot - make sure it is a nice one - don't go value resort - we found the home away from home invaluable.

I loved the trip I took with my boy - I always say if you are going to revcover from childbirth, there is no place I would rather do it than at Disney. Enjoy the slow pace and this opportunity to get to know and fall in love with your new bundle. Again, congrats!
