I thought I had everything "figured out" for our trip next summer and then got a new twist thrown at me, and need input! Please!

So apparantly we cannot take a vacation unless the dog goes with us. :sad2: So. Fort Wilderness it is. We will have an RV (a fixer-upper we're working on). Four of us, and our youngest DS is autistic and has fairly low muscle tone. I've gotten plenty of info about the parks themselves, but FW I still have questions.

I think we'd be better off trying to get as close to the entrance as possible? Because of the distance to the bus, etc? Okay, let's say we were in the 100 loop, really how far is it from there to the bus? I am willing to sacrifice the peace and quiet in exchange for convenience. I would like to avoid renting a golf cart.

Then there's the dog. Are the 100-200-300 loops okay for pets? Which loop is going to be the best combo of convenience and pet?

I think we will be spending most of our time at the parks, as opposed to hanging around FW much, but then again with kids you never know, so it's more of a priority to be able to get to the busses than, say, the volleyball court.

Also, if I've read correctly, it would be okay to leave the dog in the RV with the air running (of course)? She would like that alot better than a kennel. The whole kennel thing is the reason we're now taking her with us on vacation. She mostly just sleeps all day, and then sleeps all night. :confused3 She's got a tough life. And then, okay, we can only walk her on the specific trails, which I'm *assuming* are right there where we'd be parked?

I'm sure I have more questions but I think this post is long enough.

We are currently staying in the 300 loop with our dog. There is a bus stop right across from our loop that takes you up front to the main bus outpost. Also, it is not a long walk from here to get to the boat to go to the MK. One issue that you are going to encounter is which loops are pet friendly. Given your sons medical condition, I would call and let them know your needs and ask what they can do to help you. They are usually very good about these types of issues. Enjoy your trip!

I just thought of another question. ;)

We are planning our trip for late May/ early June 2008. However, we will not be able to nail the exact dates until September. Is that going to be a problem? I have read other threads of people making ressies a year out and I'm a little worried that by the time we know exact dates, I'll have a problem getting any spot at all, much less with a special request.

I also did read on another thread about going ahead to reserve, and over-booking and then cancelling the un-needed dates later. Is that okay to do? I hadn't thought about doing it that way. My only question there is that we are doing Dining Plan, I don't know how that would all boil down, I guess we'd have to "reserve" dining plan for the entire time too, then cancel what we don't need? Can you do that?

You could go ahead and book if that would make you more comfortable but we have never had any trouble booking ressies. In fact, we are in DW now and only booked a few weeks ago. I don't know about the dining plan as we have never used it. However, IMO waiting until Sept would still give you plenty of time. Good luck!
