Hi,

I have been reading these boards for a couple of years now and thought it is time I registered and said Hello!:wave2: My Husband and I have finally decided to buy into DVC and are going to DLR tomorrow for a presentation. We are interested in acquiring points at SSR (we love how close it is to DTD). Any advice from all you DVC experts would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks - Sandy :ccat:

Welcome to the DIS.

It's a fairly low key presentation and unlike other timeshares the offer you will get tomorrow is the offer. (None of this "let me get my manager" who then gives you a "better" offer junke! LOL!)

Yes, I have some great advice that I got here. If you get more than say, 150 points, get your points divided into 2 contracts. The reason for this is that if for some reason there's a need, financial or otherwise, down the road to sell, you can sell smaller contracts sometimes easier than you can the larger ones.

I believe the minimum now is 160, and I don't think you can divide up your initial contract.

SandyCA -

Be sure to read through the "Knowing what you know now..." thread.

We live in San Diego and enjoy a small number of DVC points for annual visits to WDW -- but also own other timeshares for exploring SoCAL, western states, etc.

I echo the suggestion above concerning your initial DVC purchase: go for a small contract (160pts) leaving room for upgrades, other vacation options or even other timeshares later down the road.

Thank you for the welcome!

I will be happy if it is not "hard pressure" sale. I'm pretty much sold on the product and must say, pretty excited to become a DVC member. Do you or does any one know if I needed to make an appointment? My DH and I were going to DTD (at DLR) and thought we would stop in at the DVC kiosk/center when we got there. I hope that's ok:confused:

If any one has had experience purchasing DVC at DLR, please chime in - any help is appreciated.

Thanks! :flower3:

I don;t kow if the promo is still going on, but ask your guide at DLR...people who purchased at DLR were getting free APs to DLR or WDW for a year :)

Like I said, they may have discontinued it, but it never hurts to ask :)

We bought from DLR last month. No pressure at all, very friendly, we had to cut our presentation short due to promising the kids we would take them swiming and needed to leave. You can sit on the info and can make an offer within 3 days i think. You can fill out most of the paperwork at home via and mail it to them.

We got 2 free PAP as part of the incentives as well at the 8-9 dollars off per point.

We went to DTD waiting for check in at GCH. Talked to the DVC kiosk(is that how you spell it?) person there, she called the place where they do the presentation and got in right away. They also have a desk in the lobby of GHC so you can talk to something there. I'm sure you can go straight to the DVC office and tell the receptionist you would like more info on it. Might have a wait for the next guide though.

Anyways we're excited to start using points!

Edited to say: Oh ya and we got a 50$ disney gift card ;)

Welcome to Dis neighbor! We also bought from DLR last Jan. and just like what Alychel, we also got 2 free PAP, a tote, 3 hats and YES......$50 giftcard. My guide is Fernando Molina, very nice guy and easy to talk to. Let me know if you want me to give you his no.

Welcome to DIS SandyCA!~ I hope you enjoy now as a member DIS member!
There's a lot of very nice people here:)

Thanks to everyone for the welcome:flower:

Thanks Alychel1 and Zoom for info.

MissyDVC - I was going to PM you back, but I don't think I have enough posts because I received an error message - thank you too:goodvibes

I will report back tomorrow hopefully to say 'we did it!' :yay:

If Nelida Mora is available, she is an AWESOME guide---very low key and knowledgeable. Have fun---report back on Easter crowds on the DL board, too, please! :thumbsup2

Always good to look into resales also. I purchased two contracts...one through Disney and one through Timeshare Store and there were not any difference in how was treated or benefits of the contract...only difference was resale was cheaper!:cool1:

:cool1: DH and I are now proud owners at SSR. I will post more info under "Mousellaneous(sp?) We are very excited:goodvibes .
