Hi All,
I am registering for my first 10K, Race for the Taste, in October. I am in good shape, but still a little nervous about running a consecutive 6 miles...:rolleyes1
I definately am goal oriented and have needed to shake it up for a few months. I am excited to do something fun and competitive at Disney!!! (besides eat;) ) Anybody else running for the first time?
Peace, Leigh

Leigh, I am not running my first race. I have 2 half marathons and a bunch of 5Ks under my belt but.....I am running my first 10K in August!! Funny that I skipped that distance isn't it.

You will be fine in this race and soon will be saying "what, it's only 6 miles"!! I know it is hard to believe, but you will!!!!!!!!!

Best of luck in RftT. I will be at ToT a few weeks later!!!!!!!! :thumbsup2

DBF and I are running it for the first time! We are hoping to get in one local 10k before hand so we are prepared and we've done some 5ks, but we only started running seriously in March. There is a RftT check-in thread somewhere with a list of those of us who are going!

Leigh - COngrats for signing up! DO you have a plan to get to that distance? I think running for mortals by JOhn the Penguin Bingham (hero of many of us around here) has a plan for that. CAn check with dh. Let us know if you have any questions or anything. Many of us started at nothing and worked our ways to half or full marathons in a year. If you are in good shape and start your training now, you should be fine.

I believe you will have other WISH Team members to say hi to there. You have the time you need to get in the training. You do not have to speed run the entire event. You can do any combination of run/walk. Work at your training program and you will make it. You can do this and you will definitely have fun!

DH and I are running this as our first race together, although I do have one small (4-mile) race under my belt. We both started C25K this year, but both of us have both had injuries complicate our training. I managed to get through Week 7 (25 minutes of running without taking a walk break) before my ankle cried "uncle!" and I had to put the training on hold.

I think we'll probably be doing a slow run/walk unless we can both recover in time to get back into serious training. I'm disappointed, as I really wanted to try and run the whole thing, but still very excited to do something athletic at the World.

From my limited experience, I can say that 4 race miles felt like a much shorter distance than 3.1 non-race miles due to the excitement factor, so don't stress about the distance too much. I'd imagine that if your body can handle 5 miles on a non-race day, 6.2 will feel about the same once race day arrives.

Hope to see you there!

Thanks for the positive feedback! I am just really excited to take the initiative to try something new...I have no problem doing a run/jog/walk combo, I also think the company and environment will be the best!! I did a local Ymca 5K a few years ago and I know the sights are better at Dis than Brighton, MA
Have a great Day! :yay:

That's funny. I too have as many marathons as 10K's. They just don't offer the distance like they used to.

If you go out slowly, you shouldn't have a problem as you will get swept up in the whole Disney thing. You will be at mile 5 before you remember to blink. That was my first Disney race and that's how I felt.
