Hi everyone. I have a resort studio at GFV booked for 4 nights in April. I'd like to try to get into a deluxe studio, and it looks like I can get on the wait list, but I'm not sure how that works. It will automatically replace my current reservation, and will take any extra points needed out of my account (looks like 30 more points because it's a lake view). But what about the 31 day/7 day thing? Why wouldn't I do 7 days? Thanks for any help!

Extra points returned would go into holding. But since you’d be using up more points, I think 7 days is okay.

Hopefully others will chime in if I’m missing anything.

You can also waitlist a standard view deluxe studio which would be the same number of points btw.
The 31 day thing is important if the waitlisted reservation uses less points because those extra points freed up from the waitlist filling would go into holding.

And you have to use points in holding in the current use year?
Yes and can only be used to book a trip 60 days or less from check in. But, as long as a waitlist is for a room that is the same or more points, setting it up to cancel at 7 days is not an issue.

I would also check the website regularly as sometimes days will show up because no one really knows exactly how the system works when checking against the waitlist. I have had rooms I cancel show up right away and others not.

Waitlists are filled manually. It is possible to make this into two waitlists. One for two nights, one for the other two. You tell MS that you want them to cancel those days on the reservation, but not the whole thing. You have to call MS to set up these waitlists.

A two night waitlist is more likely to fill than a four, but you could be stuck with a split stay.
