Newbie questions...?

Just watched the DVC promotional DVD.

Currently they are offering 2 plans, Saratoga and Animal Kingdom.

1. If we purchase a plan, does that mean we can only use points for our specific home? Meaning if we purchase for Animal Kingdom, I can only stay there?
   
2. Also can you ONLY use your points at DVC resorts, or at ALL Disney resorts?
   
3. How much (approx) are the points each? Don't want to call Disney just yet, trying to get a feel first.

Points are $104 each from Disney, but there are incentives for purchasing Animal Kingdom Lodge and Saratoga Springs.

You may stay at any DVC resort. You may book a vacation at your home resort up to 11 months in advance. You may begin booking vacations at other resorts up to 7 months in advance.

You can use your points to stay at any Disney resort, but your best value is to stay at DVC resorts.

You can save some $ by purchasing resale. Check out the Timeshare Store (at the top of this page) to get a feel for the process. Purchasing through Disney is quicker and offers easy financing. Purchasing via resale takes longer and there is a chance that Disney will buy the contract from the current owner (Right Of First Refusal) rather than let it pass to you. Spend the next week or so reading these boards and you'll get a good feel for how things really work.

Also, be aware that you CAN buy any of the existing DVC resorts direct form Disney as well, but if you want BCV, it could be a wait.

1. If I purchase a DVC, and pay for my points all up front (no financing needed), how long is my membership good for?
   
2. Will I ever have to pay additional fees?

If I purchase a DVC, and pay for my points all up front (no financing needed), how long is my membership good for?

Depends on which resort you purchase. BWV, VWL, BCV, VB & HHI go until 1/31/2042. SSR goes to 1/31/2054. AKV and OKW go to 1/31/2057. OKW was just extended from 1/31/2042. Members who hold 2042 contracts were given the option to extend for either $15/point or $25/point or to keep their contract as is.

Will I ever have to pay additional fees?

Each year you pay maintenance fees (also known as annual dues). They run between $4 and $5 per point depending on the resort. There are also fees to trade/book outside of the DVC resorts.
