In process (I hope) of buying a resale into SSR - scenario is this - it starting to snow bucket loads here in Charlotte, NC - kids are not going to school tomorrow and Friday is almost assuredly a lost cause. Could I go online right now assuming the site is up, find a room, book it with my points and get in the car?

Is there a FAQ?

Yes you could if rooms are available. 60 days prior to any check in date DVC give rooms to Disney for cash bookings, this reduces they available inventory for members even more.

That's sounds like an ideal plan. One thing to add, for same day ressie I believe you would have to use the phone to call member services to book.

Wait...you're in process of buying? If the sale isn't complete you can't book. Did I understand correctly?

It would really depend on the time of year as to weather a room would be available. If it is from mid September through the first week of January, it is very doubtful you would be able to get a few nights at the same resort (F&W, holiday parties, cheaper points in December, teacher conferences (Jersey Week in November) holidays etc.. Maybe a split stay at 2 or even three resorts? Three day weekends are hard to get as well. If you are not picky as to the resort it might work out okay most of the time.

If you don't mind split stays (a night at SSR, 2 at AKV, etc). Your chances are better with a 1 bedroom. In the summer, the chances are much higher that SSR is fully available. And on such short notice, you can call and have MS call the resort to see if there are rooms available they'd be willing to turn over to DVC.

Seriously? Is this a reality? We're looking to relocate there from the NE. Was hoping to sell our snow blower with the house!

Re: Relo to NC and possibility of snow

Hey, even San Diego gets the occasional snow! Ours sat on the ground for a full week ... much longer than normal ... but it arrived, politely, over the New Year's Holiday. Whee!

Congratulations and Welcome Home! For the intentions of same-day or near-day travel: I'd PHONE Member Services rather than check online. I did once snag a same-day check-in at Vero Beach one summer! Great fun! (Gladly, I was already in FL and wasn't trying to arrange either flights or a long drive.)

it never sticks around very long (and unfortunately, typically ends up as ice due to the melting during the day). it's only a few days a year that NC gets snow (not counting the mountains) - you can still sell your snow blower.

Is this a annual thing for NC? Does it make a difference if we're southern Charlotte near SC? Well, at least the kids will be happy. Looks like we'll still be taking Jan/Feb vacations to Disney to escape the cold! :thumbsup2

Would it be worth driving down for a long weekend? Seems like a lot of driving for such a short stay! 8hrs each way?
Sure it would! We do similarly driving up to San Francisco for the weekend.

OP, what you are talking about is last minute reservation.
By last minute I am talking 15 minutes ahead of arriving at the resort. We have been at DTD multiple times for the day, decided we wanted to stay the night, called directly to the resort (before MS was open on Sundays), and checked-in within 15 minutes.
