Newbie question

Since I am a newbie and this will be our first trip( mine and the kids, my hubby and in laws have been many times) I have a question about the PINS and discounts.
So we booked in January for our August trip with a wonderful disney planner. So of course Monday she calls to rebook under the discount at POR and there is none available. So I called Disney and got a lady who upgraded our room to a pool view and got us free park hopper tickets, which saved us $345. My question is, if something opens up under the discount, can they still apply it? It sounds like some of the people who got pins, got the discount and the free park hopper................but I was told only one discount per trip. Does anyone know about this? Or should I just be hapy we got the upgraded room and the hoppers for free?

What you received IS a discount... I believe it's the summer pin. So if something opens up at POR with the public summer discount you would lose the free PH upgrade. But you are getting 25% off the room rate in addition to the PH with this pin, and I don't think the summer offer is better than that. You could keep checking for a different room type to open up.

They can always price it out both ways and see which one saves you the most.

I guess where I am confused is that it doesn't look like we did get a room discount just the upgrade to a pool view from a standard room and then the free PH.( my in laws also have a room, so she gave us both pool views and with all of us getting PH's for free it was $345 less which is just the PH cost)
Unless I am totally missing something( which I might be) if we would have gotten a 25% room discount on the standard view for both rooms it would have been roughly $500 in savings between the two.....

You also have to take into account the difference in price per night between standard and pool view as part of your savings.

Using a seven day stay:

223/night (pool view) - 175/night (standard room) = 48/night saved * 2 rooms = 96/night saved * 7 days = 672 total savings on room + 345 for free PH = 1017 total savings under the promotion.

Wow! Thanks, I guess I was looking at it wrong.....I wasn't figuring the full increase from a standard view to a pool view when I calculated. Geesh, I wonder how the heck the Disney CM I talked to applied this PIN......maybe I had one and didn't know? She told me on the phone she found a PIN, but it was after the fact that I found out that PINS are exclusive for a certain person...so I am assuming there was one in my name or she somehow circumvented the PIN system? My Mil will be happier when I show her this!!! THANKS SO MUCH! you all really know your Disney stuff

They can see if you have a pin in your name or another guest on the reservations, so you probably had one she could stick on. I think they just went out a few days ago so you may get the flyer in a few days.

Looks like someone did the math above. You can keep calling and checking to see if something less expensive room wise opens up to take a bit more off. Standards are pretty hard to come by, but a garden view might pop open.
