Newbie question about canceling & points

We have our first DVC stay booked at the end of the month. We have a September use year & our contract came with 14 2020 points that have to be used or lost. We booked a 2-night stay using those 14 2020 points and some of our 2021 points.

If we cancel now, I know the 14 2020 points are gone but are the 2021 points gone as well?

Yes. Borrowing is a final transaction, so you couldn't un-borrow them.

I haven't heard of them making exceptions lately, but I'd hoped they'd bring that back with the local state of emergency and the case surge. Has anyone heard anything?

Yes. Once points are borrowed, they remain in the UY you put them in. In addition, now that you are less than 31 days out, all points are going to be in holding status which means they would expire regardless of which ones they were.

No, but honestly, I do not think the system can handle exceptions any more. If they bring this back, the borrowing limit will stay longer and could be suspended completely.

That's what I thought but I was hoping I was reading it wrong. I agree, I wish they would allow for exceptions in the case of borrowed points. At least we won't be out a whole lot of points. Thanks for your help.

Can you try David’s dvc rental or dvc rental store and see if anyone would purchase your stay last minute. May not be full price but something.

That's a good idea, & at least get something for it. Well, we haven't decided to cancel yet but we're watching & waiting for now. But I'll keep that in mind if we do cancel, thanks for the suggestion!

You're under 30 days, you're eligible to put the reservation for rent on the board here. Might be worth a try. We did that with one of our AKV reservations last year and it went within hours.
