newbie question about AKV

We are planning on purchasing DVC on Monday (at least starting the process). We just got back tonight and did not actually start the purchasing process at WDW. Our guide is supposed to call us on Monday. We want to get 3 studios at AKV December 21 to December 26 of 2008. Is this impossible? Is there any way to reserve these rooms before we are actually members? I am afraid the time it takes to purchase DVC we will lose any chance of going at this time, assuming they are not already sold out. Any suggestions? Will a guide help you get them as part of your purchase package?

Nothing is impossible but it might be very difficult because that is a very popular time for the DVC.
All sorts of rumors abound about the Kidani construction possibly being completed several months early, but there are no guarantees of that. So, don't count on it- but don't abandon all hope.

Also, if you talk to your guide he/she may big MAY be able to help you out with getting your first reservation. My guide was able to help me with it, but it wasn't christmas... hope this helps

I don't know the exact point of time when you can make your reservations when you're just starting the process, but it is definitely before the closing. We made the decision to purchase during our Christmas trip, and were able to reserve our rooms for this year once we received all of the paperwork in the mail. Closing takes several months. We don't close until March, and we decided to make our reservations the last week of January. Regarding availability, if they don't have 3 studios, (which I doubt if you aren't picky about the view), then you can waitlist for them. There is also the possibility that many more studios will be available if Kidani Village opens early. So I would say you have a very good chance of getting a studio at Christmas, even if you have to go on a waitlist.

We just bought add on points at AKV 2 days ago. Our stellar guide made the reservations under DVC for New Year 08 until we had an account (less than 24 hours later). She was able to reserve the 2BR lockoff for us and there was still availability! When we got our membership number, we just took over her reservation. It was fantastic.

I'd recommend purchasing through her because she was great and got the deal done in less than 24 hours. You will also be on the priority list to purchase CA in the fall if you buy from her as she is based at Disneyland.
