I am fairly new to pin trading. Didn't even know anything about it until our trip to WDW a few years ago. The kids had such fun and are looking forward to trading on our trip this year.

I have read that "Fantasy Pins" are not tradable. Could someone please explain what these are? My definition of a fantasy pin and the pin trading world's definition are probably two different things.

Also, is Ebay a good place to pick up a few pins? I am leary about that because it seems that no one photographs the backs so that I know what I am getting.

One last question (for now). Are all pins that a person displays tradable? The kids have a few that they don't want to trade, but I wasn't aware of the etiquette. Do they just wear them on a certain side of their lanyard or should they not wear them at all?

Any and all advice is appreciated. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Fantasy pins are pins that are Disney related but NOT produced by Disney. They normally don't have the Disney copyright on the back, which is what makes them tradeable. For example I have a Fantasy pin of Stitch pointing his ray gun at Maleficent. Disney characters, but not a Disney pin. Not tradeable to a CM.

Be careful no matter where you get your pins, e-bay included. Cavet emptor. (Let the buyer (or trader) beware)

Are all pins a person wears tradeable? If a Cast Member (CM) yes....the pins aren't theirs, they belong to Disney for the purpose of trading.

If a non-castmember, always ask! For example, I wear a vest of pins. Anyone who knows me, knows that most of the pins on my vest are for trade, except for two, my Maleficent and Dragon event pin and my Scoop PinTrading Pin.

You most certainly can do whatever you want regarding wearing your pins. But be warned. The backs tend to fall off without your knowing it, and next thing you know, that pin you were displaying with pride for all the pin collectors to oooh and ahhhhh over is gone!

A good place to start learning pin ettiquette at WDW is the Scoop 1 PM Pin Talk at the Main St Expo Hall (just to the right of the train station when entering Main St). Tell him you want a primer on pin ettiquette and he will be happy to oblige and entertain at the same time.

Thank you for the info. It does clear up a few things and I think I will try to schedule in the Scoop at WDW when we go.
