Newbie NewYorker figuring out when to go

I'm trying to sift through all the DL info I can and figure out the differences from WDW, etc. We'd like to visit without pulling the kids out of school and we're originally thinking about immediately after school is out - the last week of June. I'm wondering if it may be too hot then and/or too crowded.

As I continued to read, it seems DL offers a lot less than WDW when it isn't a crowded time so perhaps I shouldn't be worried about crowds and just go with it, is it true that weekdays are tolerable because of this local factor? This is leading me to wonder about going during President's week in February or spring break in April. Anyone have thoughts on any of these options....the Feb week, the April week, or the June week?

We almost always go the last week of June or the first week of July. We love going then, the hours are longer, everything is open, there are more options for shows, etc.

The one thing you will probably run into with that last week of June is that some of the SoCal annual passes aren't blocked yet, which makes the crowds a bit heavier. If you could push it until after they are blocked, the crowds lighten up a little (but it's still crowded, don't get me wrong). The weather is warm usually but not super hot. Think sweatshirts for the evening hours.

For weather February is best. Easter is too crowded, and June usually is not too humid or hot. It is overcast most mornings and then it warms up until sundown when it gets chilly again.

Please read this thread about visiting in the off-season: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=18462889. For that reason, I would recommend against February.

It can sometimes be nice for lower crowds and more mild weather, but many things can be closed, and entertainment might not be offered during weekdays.

Of the options you listed, I would do June.

President's Day weekend is 3rd or 4th for the worst time to go for crowds. Avoid it for that and being inside a long offseason means major rehabs are likely.

If you can handle WDW during Spring Break you will be fine at DLR, they are similiar.

Weekdays are better but still busy during all of these times.

If this year not June, if next it should be fine time but this year I would wait until mid July to mid August and let the Cars Land hype die down a little.

In terms of spring break, it's a good idea to check when spring break is for southern california and arizona schools...in our experience it's a different week then what is scheduled in the northwest, so the mid-week crowds weren't bad at all when we took our grandsons last year.

Also, the week after easter isn't bad as long as other breaks aren't scheduled. We've gone the week after easter and mid-week is pretty reasonable...seems like people come for a long weekend but tend to leave by Tuesday. Just our experience.
