Newbie looking to join DVC, please Help!

We are looking at buying but can you get the free dining? Plus we have a 5th wheel trailer and not sure which way is the best for us. Price of gas kind of hurts the taking of the trailer but we have just about paid off the rv. Do they have something to go with fort wilderness? I hate not using the trailer.

no. not ever on stays on points.

you can stay at ft wilderness cabins on pts but it's very expensive - stays at DVC resorts on points are much cheaper. the trailer would not work well with DVC stays...

a 10 day (9 night) vacation in the summer including 4 weekend nights would require about 500 pts for a standard view 2BR or 660 pts for a 2BR with a magic kingdom view. (point charts are linked in the top right-hand corner if you want to run some numbers yourself.)

500 pts would start at around $54,000 including closing costs. annual dues for 500 pts would start around $1850 per year.

i believe you would get 50 years of vacations, provided you keep paying your annual dues (which will increase over time).

if you can avoid weekend nights, you can save some money. you could save a little bit by going in the offseason. but with kids in school, that may be difficult.

Thanks so much for all of the information that you have provided. We will have to look into it because it does sound like a great deal when you think about it. We would need to crunch the numbers but sounds like a good idea. Thanks again for the information.

Yet another newbie. :confused3

I've heard you can get a discount on annual passes with ownership. How much is that? Is it for all in your immediate family?

I vaquely remember that they promised free Disney tickets forever if you bought DVC in the very early days. Probably should have bought way back then.

Lisa:

If $54k seems a bit steep to you...here are some other options.

1. Get 2 studios instead of a 2 bdrm.
2. Limit your trip to 1 weekend instead of 2.
3. Purchase at a resort less expensive than Bay Lake Tower.
4. Go to Disney every other year.

As an example: you could stay at the Villas at the Wilderness Lodge during Dream Season for 12 days in 2 studio rooms every year for 204 points. If you wanted to go every other year - then you could make do with 120 points. That can be acquired for <$8000 instead of $54,000.

Dream Season is the 2nd most costly season, and would allow you to travel anytime BUT Christmas and Easter. By going 12 days, you would check-in on Sunday and check-out on Friday 12 days later. You could use WL or any of the older DVC resorts in the example. OKW, BWV, & possibly AKV have stays available for fewer points.

There are many options between spending $8000 and $54,000.

I suggest getting very familiar with the resorts, the points charts, and what you really feel comfortable doing. 2 studios are never together for instance, and King Beds, Hot Tubs, kitchens, and washers and dryers are quite wonderful.

Some people are very comfortable spending weekends on the cash rate, or even going to other resorts. Some folks even go to Pop Century on the weekends. :scared1: I hear that 2 bedroom villas at OKW has a lot to offer large families in layout, convenience, etc. for a lot fewer points.

Of course, if you have your heart set on Bay Lake Tower in a 2 bdrm for 2 weeks every year-- I am available for adoption.:)

here is a link to the info. it's roughly $100 off.

an urban myth, i believe. early purchasers did get free passes for the first few years but nothing that extreme.
