Hi everyone. I'm new to this site and I'm hoping that you may be able to help me. Myself, my hubbie and our little boy Lucas are booked to go to Disneyland Paris on 4th Oct for 4nights/5 days. Lucas will be 21 months old when we go so obviously we will be needing to use a stroller while we are there. Now the main question I have is should we take our own buggy or hire one when we get there? (we are flying there by the way) I have looked back at previous posts regarding this subject but either they are quite old posts or they don't seem to agree. Are the strollers at the park old or new and do they have a harness? Are they comfortable and easy to push? Can you take them out of the park? Would I be better off with our own? I can't seem to decide!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello Tracy - welcome to the DIS!!

I think that the hire strollers are more suitable for an older child. I personally found it heavy and difficult to push, but it was okay for my five year old to sit in for a bit!! So I say, take your own!! Your DS will be nice and comfortable, you don't have to bother about going to collect one each time you enter a park, plus you have toddler transport for trips to the Disney Village and to and from your hotel.

Is this your first trip, or are you a DLP pro?! :)

Hi Becky, thanks for the quick reply. This will be the first time to DLP for all of us so we're quite excited!!! Thanks for the help with the stroller, I had originally thought to hire one but the more I read and the more I think about it we will be better off with our own, even though it means more to take with us. Lucas will no doubt need a snooze during the day and I'm sure he would be more comfy in his own buggy as you say.

Any other tips you can think of for me, especially children related, would be much appreciated.

Thanks again

Hi Tracy and welcome to DLP DIS board :wave2:
We are a friendly bunch here so please join in on any other thread or if you have a number of questions then just start a new thread for each :goodvibes

If you have not had a look yet, posting guidlines can be found here and details regarding help on signatures here

I'm an avocate of the strollers for any parent as they will make it much more enjoyable even with an older child. Given the age of your DS I'd agree bring your own. He will be much more comfortable. We brought our own until DD was 2 1/2 to 3 and then used the stroller from the park.
If you are flying remember to let the desk know that you want to keep your buggy with you until you board. You may be lucky and at the other end find the cabin crew have your buggy ready rather than having to get it at baggage arrivals.

Thanks very much for your help - thats another vote for taking our own stroller. I'm looking into buying a new stroller, one that's more lightweight than the one we have now so I've been having a look on the internet today. Thanks for the tip about telling the desk at the airport that we want to keep the buggy till we board - I didn't know that. I've only flown once 7 years ago and my husband has never flown so we are pretty much clueless really when it comes to travelling with children. So we can keep the buggy and then just pass it to them as we board and they don't actually put it in with all the other luggage? That's handy for us.

I'm sure I'll think of many more questions before we actually go so you'll proabably see a lot more of me on here!

Thanks again

hi tracy
we just arrived back from dlp last night with a three year old who turned four whilst we were there and we did not take our own stroller and boy, how i wish that i had done. we hired one every day for 6euros 50 but you cannot take them back to the hotel and it can still be a trek back to your hotel. take your own stroller for sure. the hired ones are okay but they dont relax back like most of ours do and if it rains you dont have a rain cover for them and they dont have much of a bag store underneath either and are a bit heavy as they are metal frames, like a zimmer frame. if you have any questions, dont hesitate to contact me, if i can help with queries with young children, i'll try and help you out. take your own childrens size kinfe and forks as we found the restaurants dont give you any!!

hi tracey,

we went to dlp in march with 3 little un's, aged 22 months, 31/2 and 5, we took our own buggy and boy it was used, emma slept in it, adn jake or libby would stand on the back if they got tried, teh buggy's in the parks look so heavy and old, and they don't recline so i would say no good for your little one, and we were allowed in manchester to take the buggy right to the gate, but in cdg we had to put it with the luggage, which i was mad about as emma was due to have a sleep, and lugging 3 small children and there backpacks was a pain, we found cdg staff very rude and not helpful at all, but apart from that we had a wonderful time.

We found the strollers (they are sturdier than the typical umbrella strollers) to be in good clean condition every time. They are fairly chunky - they have to be so they can accomodate older children (my 4 yr old used one with his brother standing on the back). From what I can remember, they are fixed position - so they won't recline back - not sure if that would be a problem for sleeping? They do have harnesses on them that can be adjusted. They do not have rain-covers though and cannot be used outside of the park.

I remember Annie (my sister) saying that you can now get a lightweight stroller that folds into a bag/rucksack or similar, don't know where from or how much, but I did think what a fantastic idea, I wish I'd thought of it. :)

Thanks everyone for your posts of wisdom! I'm flying from Manchester too so it's handy to know that they let you take your buggy to the gate. I have been looking at a buggy that folds 3 times really small and fits into a special travel bag so I may even be able to take that on as hand luggage maybe? We're going to have a look this weekend and try Lucas in a few to see which is best for us. ALso thanks for the tip about cutlery, I'll definately pack some of Lucas' little spoons!

Thanks again
