Okay my UY is Oct. so I have to bank my left over points by March 31st. Okay....right now we are waitlisted for a less points room on our AUG trip. If that becomes available say in June and we get that wait list.....those left over points are LOST? IS that correct. So basicallly I should get my ressie the way I want it by end of March or just forget the wait list? Thanks

March 31st is your 100% banking deadline. That is, if you wanted to bank ALL of your '06 UY points, you would have to do so by that deadline.

You have until July 31st to bank 25% of your points. That means if you have 100 points in your contract and if you haven't banked any, you could bank 25 points on/by July 31st. This seems reasonable, I hope you get your waitlist by then. However, if you have 100 points in your contract, and you have ALREADY banked, say 30 points, you cannot bank any, even if you have a few that you would still like to. The 25% is a cummulative total that can be banked by July 31st.

Thanks. I was hoping that was it. I am banking 227 points by the month's end. Then if I get my waitlist BW days (weekdays)....I would be getting points back SO that is why I was concerned.

If the points you get back and the ones you have already banked = 50% of your total points you can bank the ones you get back by the end of May or if they = 25% of your total points then the date would be July 31.

And conversely, if the 227 points is more than 1/2 of your annual allotment of points, and your waitlist came through after March 31, you would NOT be able to do any further banking.

In order to give you the most complete answer, we need to know how many points you own and how many points will be freed up if your waitlist comes through.

And just to be sure you understand, it's the total points for all your contracts with that October Use Year. That is, include your add-on purchases, if any.

But do not include any resale contracts that are under a different membership number, if by chance you have any of those.

OKay we bought 300, got those right away. Then we got 300 Dev. points to use right away. So this Oct. we get another 300. So do those Dev. points count as far as figuring out 50% banked...or just my reg. 300. I am so confused. :confused3

OK, so you have a 300-point contract with an Oct UY. You can bank up to 100% of the points by Mar 31st. You can bank up to 50% of your contract's points (150 pts) by June 30th, including any points already banked. You can bank up to 25% of your points (75 pts) by Jul 31st, including any points already banked.

If you bank 227 points by the end of the month (your 100% banking deadline) that is more than 50% of the points in your contract, so you will not be able to bank any more points after that date. So unless your wait list clears before Mar 31st, you will not be able to bank the freed points.

ETA: I have a follow up question for you. I'm not that familiar with developer points. Are you allowed to bank those? (I know the AKV developer points cannot be banked -- I wasn't sure about the ones you got with your SSR purchase). If they are bankable, are some of the 227 points that you intend to bank this month developer points? Because if you can bank the developer points as well as your current allotment of SSR points, then that changes things. If you cannot bank the developer points and the 227 points you intend to bank this month are SSR points then my answer above is correct.

Okay I have a complicated wait list that I probably should just say FORGET ABOUT AND NOT WORRY ABOUT total points I am using since I have so many this year. LOL Okay I explained above about our total points this year. If we are able to get our BW days our last 4 days vs. first 4 we are talking about freeing up less than 20 pts.

Hmm...I just bought SSR with a Sept. UY and I didn't get developer points, but I did get 2006 points. And I also confirmed with my guide that I CAN still bank those points at 100%, since I only just got them...

WE PURCHASED.....on Jan. 31st and we had a choice of 101 a pt. and getting 300 developer points or buying for 91 a pt. We chose the 300 points. So we got 2006 UY points and those extra 300. Our UY is Oct.

Hi. Yes I could bank all 600 if need be. He told us this in Jan. I called and asked him early Feb. too...just to make sure. So I guess you could say that we used the developer points for our Aug. trip????

We purchased an SSR add-on in January also, and I'm pretty sure if someone took the developer points, they had to be used by the end of the use year (same as an AKV purchase would be). That's why we took the $$$ option instead.

Apparently you are using 373 points for your August trip. All 300 developer points plus 73 of your 2006 UY points. This leaves you with 227 points in UY 2006 which you are going to bank.

Now, if your waitlist comes through and your reservation takes fewer points, I can see a couple of things happening.

  • If you get more than 73 points back, the ones that are developer points would be lost unless you could use them by October 1st, assuming that developer points cannot be banked.

  • If you get back less than 74 points, then those points are all 2006 Use Year points that would normally be subject to banking deadlines. However since you'd be past your 100% banking window and would already have more than 50% already banked (the 227 points), then the returned points would not normally be bankable.

  • However, and this is the big question. For new contracts DVC allows points to be banked even though one may be past their banking deadlines. For example if someone purchased in January, and had a March UY, they would still allow that person to bank their 2006 UY points. The question is would they allow you to bank those returned points, and treat them as new contract points, and allow you to bypass the normal banking window percentages? They might allow it, or they might not since you had the opportunity to bank them already. Normally when banking newly purchased points you need to do it right away so the CM can see that they are brand new and bypass the banking windows. If you wait several months and then try to bank returned points, it may be a problem. Then in that case, you might have to speak with a supervisor to try to get them banked.

  • You could call now and speak with a supervisor and make sure that if you get returned points that you would be allowed to bank them as a new purchase. If the supervisor says OK, then make sure they put a notation on your account to that affect. If they say no, then you know where you stand.

  • Or if you're happy with what you've got reserved, then just forget the whole thing and cancel your waitlist....

Thanks for that explanation. I am at the point now that I am probably going to JUST STICK WITH MY CURRENT RESSIE because this just seems to keep getting more and more crazy with me waivering over this and that. My guide assured me that if I didn't want to use any points that I could bank them all but since we are using over 300 then I am not too worried. I will probably get the insurance because we are going close to the end of our UY.
